Entre os jovens artistas brasileiros que participaram da I Bienal estiveram Antonio Maluf (que realizou o cartaz da Bienal em estilo abstrato-geométrico), além de Waldemar Cordeiro, Ivan Serpa e Abraham Palatnik. Este apresentou seu "Cinecromático"(1950-51), experimentação absolutamente inovadora no campo da luz e movimento na arte através de uma sedutora tecnologia bastante rudimentar. O resultado das projeções cinecromáticas de Palatnik foi surpreendente em sua repercussão. Artista-inventor, sua obra se apresentou numa pequena cabine fechada, ante os olhos assombrados do publico que ignorava se considerava seu trabalho como pintura, escultura, ou o quê? Na verdade, em sua primeira apresentação ante o júri de seleção da Bienal os membros da comissão não aceitaram o "Cinecromático" de Palatnik por não considera-lo "arte" e, ao mesmo tempo, por não se adequar às categorias convencionais de pintura, escultura, gravura ou desenho. Mário Pedrosa, contudo, e o artista Almir Mavignier conseguiram uma projeção especial da obra no recinto do Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. Por ocasião da abertura da Bienal, ficou vago um espaço designado para uma delegação estrangeira que não compareceu a tempo. Foi então sugerido que Palatnik exibisse seu trabalho nesse espaço.

Bob Josserand Web posted Friday, May 19, 2000 2:47 p.m. CT Malouf Abraham Malouf Abraham Sr. By Kevin Welch, Globe-News Staff Writer Giving away his money drew as much attention to Malouf "Oofie" Abraham Sr. as did his wheeling and dealing in the oil and gas business. Abraham built a fortune with oil and natural gas leases in the Anadarko basin of the eastern Panhandle and western Oklahoma, but he started out as the son of immigrants from Lebanon. Abraham's father, Nahim, came to America in 1902. Abraham's mother, Alia, followed 11 years later after Nahim opened The Fair department store in Canadian. During the Depression, Abraham dropped out of Texas Tech after three years and did everything from checking coats and selling horned toads at the state fair in Dallas to running a restaurant in Canadian called Killarney Cafe. Eventually, Abraham opened a real estate business that allowed him to enter the oil lease business. The oil lease business launched his fortune as the oil business boomed in the 1950s. Abraham served two terms in the 1950s as Canadian's mayor and two terms in the Texas House of Representatives in the 1960s. His political career ended with a defeat by Max Sherman in the 1970 race for the Texas Senate.

ANSWER (by Gerhard Stemberger): Gestalt psychologists have indeed done theoretical and practical work on theory and treatment of psychosis and other mental disorders. Max WERTHEIMER, the founder of Gestalt theory, was interested in psychopathology from the very beginning of his studies and research work. He had worked in neurology and psychiatry institutes in Prague and Vienna before he came to Frankfurt and then Berlin where Gestalt theory finally was born. Max WERTHEIMER himself has not published in this field, but he has stimulated and influenced most of the early Gestalt psychologists' work in this field and he continued to discuss related matters during his time at the New School for Social Research in New York (you can read about this in the excellent volumes by A.S. and E.H.
