Creativity On Wheels!
Anyone interested in Animation and Character Creation will enjoy this book as I did. I always enjoy seeing the Pencil sketches before the final scene is approved. This is where you see the Animator's Creative Spirit which is the basis for the Final Film.

Great book.
If you're a "Cars" and a Pixar fan like me, this book is a must.The artwork and design that goes into their films is fantastic, and it's great to get a glimpse into the earlier, developmental stages.

This book contains a great sampling of both the early and finished works that went into "Cars,"as well as a peak at how the story came about.Beautiful book, simple as that.

This book is filled with plenty of concept art drawings. Pixar artists draw hundreds of drawings each day but only selected ones were included into the book due to the limited number of pages. Every page is packed with art.

Also included are storyboards, architectural drawings, landscape drawings, lighting studies, car decor sketches, photos from their road trips.

This is a wonderful selection of drawings pulled off directly from the drawing board.

Tha Art of Cars
I was pleased to have this book be in prime condition when it arrived. The price was excellent. The order came in a timely fashion.

The Art of books by Pixar are wonderful. For the artist these books give a great background into how the art brought the story alive.

I highly recommend these books, especially for those who love Pixar.

Beautifully compiled book of the art and animation process
If you enjoy learning the behind the scenes process that goes into many of the animated and computer animated films of today, you will love this book.

It shows step by step the drawings and thoughts that went into each character in Radiator Springs and also the creation of all the backdrops. From the smallest signs and orange cones to the racetrack and beyond, you can see how it all evolved.

Good pics, but average text
Amazon price for the book is $[...], and it's a nicely put together book; however, info in the introductory essay is repeated throughout the book. And, more of the space could have been dedicated to the photos.

The book ends with the photographer's letters home to his wife, but nothing new really was revealed from the full letters that wasn't already written in the intro.

Nice book if you can pick it up for [...] bucks, but $[...] is a bit steep.

Marilyn cannot take a bad photo, Do your research before buying!
I'm a huge collector of Marilyn Monroe - So when I became interested in this book, as the cover photo caught my attention, I thought there would be LOAD'S of photo's covering almost every page!

There were not.Most photo's of Marilyn are of a smaller size print... there are some full page...but more in the smaller size.

All the tedious information and lack of the amount of photo's I expected made it just another book on Marilyn you could see anywhere.SURE, Sure, there were a few photo's that may have never been seen....but like I said, Marilyn can't take a bad photo so they were all 'nice' pic.s of her.

It just wasn't what I was expecting - that's all - If I had thumbed thru it in a bookstore before purchasing, I wouldn't have bought it.

A candid look at Marilyn at the height of here career.
This book is a treasure for any Marilyn fan but I think would also be of interest to the general public.The photos are the long lost results of a 1953 Look magazine shoot. The Black and white photos were taken while Marilyn was in Canada on location for the "River of No Return."

While some of the photos are posed, most are candid shots of Marilyn giving the reader a glimpse behind the scenes of this iconic star at the height of her career.I found myself taking my time as I paged through the book.There is a quality about Marilyn that is arresting, she makes you look, even more so in the candid shots.For more insight into Marilyn I am looking forward to "Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, Letters" to be released next week (Lost diaries of Marilyn's).And for a look into the making of Marilyn's last film I highly recommend "Misfits Country."

Just When You Thought You've Seen It All!
Just when you thought you've seen it all... here comes "Marilyn August 1953: The Lost Look Photos" by John Vachon. This is a fabulous book! It is perfect for the Marilyn fan or for any lover of photography.

In August of 1953 documentary photographer John Vachon was given an assignment by Look magazine. The assignment would take him away from his family vacation and to Canada for two weeks. John was asked to take photos of Marilyn Monroe (what a hard job) for Look magazine. Marilyn at the time was at the top of her success. She had just completed Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and was engaged to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio. She was in the Canadian Rockies to film, The River Of No Return.

Despite this John was not so sure he would find Marilyn an easy subject to photograph. Many movie stars of the time would be surrounded by their handlers making the photographer's job harder to do. Would he be able to capture a different side to Marilyn? The side that showed the "real Marilyn"?

I think you will find that the answer is yes! John took over 100 photos of Marilyn capturing her at her very best. The photos in this book are spectacular. They capture Marilyn in candid moments: snuggling with Joe Dimaggio and staged moments: Marilyn pouting in a two-piece bathing suit on crutches. These photos prove that Marilyn and the camera were best friends. She understood photography and how to take a great photo.

I have been a Marilyn fan/collector for over 20 years. I have only seen a few of the photos shown in this book. If you are looking for rare Marilyn "Marilyn August 1953: The Lost Look Photos" is it.

The book consists of only black & white photos- but, they are just lovely. The book is well made and a perfect coffee table size. The story behind the photographs is also very interesting and will give you a glimpse into Marilyn's life at the time.

Rumpole for the Defence
Rumpole for the Defence, as read by Patrick Tull, is great!Unfortunately Patrick Tull's readings no longer seem to be in circulation.The reader for this set of cd's has a grating voice which is hard to listen to.Ouch!

The Old Bailey Hack is Back
We again meet with the inimitable Horace Rumpole in this collection of seven short stories.We have our favourite old curmudgeon dealing with all kinds of things from blackmail to corrupt coppers to murder.I can't stress enough how enjoyable these Rumpole stories are.They are extremely funny, and Rumpole's dry wit emerges over and over again.And the other characters in each story are just as memorable.Even the villains are wonderfully unique.John Mortimer is a very talented writer, and I invite you to enter his wonderful world with Horace Rumpole "rising to his hind legs" for each of his orations in court "up at the Old Bailey".

Irresistible and unforgettable
I couldn't put this book down. Rumpole's deprecating wit and touching cluelessness make him impossible to resist or to forget. This book actually made me scream with laughter, especially Rumpole's wry descriptions of one of his old school cronies who looks like a shrimp.

Great audio book for the car
Once I tuned into the voice and adjusted the knobs on the tape player, this proved to be an excellent choice for in-the-car reading. The stories are reasonably short (one cassette each, as a rule) and quite entertaining. There's not much of the left-wing propaganda that comes out in the television series. This is just Rumpole using his ingenuity and accumulated experience to deal with an assortment of cases, from the woman accused of pushing her husband off their yacht to the policeman accused of taking bribes. There's even a case that Rumpole regrets winning when he realizes his client is guilty after all!

Good stuff, and I hope to listen to numerous additional tapes like this one. ... Read more
