Q. Serenus Samonicus' de Medicina appears to be absent from the text scan.Pages of the Celsus text are there, but the scan is blurry at numerous points, and the right margin text of the latter quarter of the book is entirely unreadable. There are also duplicate and omitted pages from the scan. Some of the scans have only partially turned pages, so sections of the text are missing in their entirety. Not recommended. ... Read more

Product Description
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.

Chapters: Eusebia, Helena, Murong Jun, Serenus of Antinouplis, Eusebius of Emesa, Auxentius of Mopsuestia, Abramios the Recluse. Excerpt:Abramios The Recluse Saint Abramios The Recluse (290-360) was an early Christian hermit and ascetic from Edessa . Biography Abramios was born in 290 AD in Edessa , today anl urfa , Turkey . On the day of his marriage he left his fiancee and went to the Marmara sea coast, near Lampsacus , today Lapseki . At that place he lived in one cave and left it only two times. First, when he was ordered to baptise one paganic village and second one to free his nefew Maria from sin. He died in 360 AD. References (URLs online) (1) Nikolaj Velimirovic : "The prologue of Ohrid" Websites (URLs online) A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at Auxentius of Mopsuestia (died 360) was bishop of Mopsuestia , and is a saint in the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. His feast day is December 18. Baronius places Auxentius in the Roman martyrology, because of the story told by Philostorgius (in Suidas ) that he was at one time an officer in the army of Licinius , and gave up his commission rather than obey the imperial command to lay a bunch of grapes at the feet of a statue of Bacchus . Tillemont is inclined to believe that Auxentius was an Arian ; his patronage of the heretic Aetius , points to this conclusion. He is not to be confused with Auxentius (d. 374), bishop of Milan , or with Saint Auxentius (d. 473), a hermit cleared of heresy at the Council of Chalcedon and an Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic saint. Notes This article incorporates text from the Catholic Encyclopedia of 1913, a publication now in the public domain . A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at Eusebia ( 360, full name Flavia Aurelia Eusebia, sometimes known as Aurelia Eusebia) was th... ... Read more
