Hilarious Golf Novel
It is said that the smaller the ball the harder to write about the sport.John Niven did a fantastic job of weaving the hilarity of a terrible golfer, his fortune and misfortune into a laugh out loud story.As soon as I finished it I mailed it to omy college roommate who is right off the boat from Glasgow.

I will definitely read Niven's other books.

Amazing and fantastic book.
I purchased this book on my Kindle after reading the Author's excellent "Kill Your Friends"

First of all, a warning.This book has some very strong Scottish slang in it which luckily I could understand, being Scottish, however, I think most people will get the gist of it when reading.

That said, this was one of the funniest and most uplifting books I have read in a long time.

I loved the hilarious idea of Gary in the open championship and the beauty of the book is that just when you think it's going to rise off into some Hollywood style fantasy story the reality of his other neurological "conditions" he has bring him back down to earth with a comedy bump.

I've read that this is to be made in a movie.I hope it keeps true to the book, but either way, well done to the author for crafting a wonderful tale.

Brilliant, beautiful, and heartbreakingly funny
Never before have I been so moved as to write a book review on Amazon (although I love reading other reader's reviews).I was about to share this book with a friend via Facebook and was stunned to see there are no reviews.The story is hysterical and brilliant - and if I'm borrowing words already printed somewhere on the cover (I've lent mine out already) so be it.Rarely have I escaped into a story so utterly and entirely, nor has a book ever made me laugh so hard.There's no great redeeming message or revelation, just a delightful jaunt through a somewhat improbable journey that I'd gladly take again.I have laughed out loud, full on fits of laughter, merely at the memory of the book.

Here's the most interesting part - I have rarely enjoyed reading a "funny" book. And I read every genre I can get my hands on.This book has it all - beautifully constructed story written with very real skill and talent, a cast of characters guaranteed to have some difficulties, some of which are uproariously funny and some of which are unnerving.The book kept me guessing but always pleasantly surprised, and anxiously checking to see how many pages were left before my journey was done.

In short - if you enjoy reading, buy this book.Then promptly share it with a friend - preferably by asking them to buy a copy and support the author.I've not read any of John Niven's other books, but that's now on my to do list.

Excellent..just beware
If you have a coarse sense of humour you will love this book.

I would say you have to be British to get most of the humour as it's very much our slang, but it is hilarious in parts and a very interesting insight into the world of the Music business.

You will never read the word "chang" so many times in one book in your life!!

Killing in the name of
"Kill Your Friends" isn't really a serious novel. It's serious in that it's well written and the author knows what he's talking about regarding the music business but other than that it's not going to be a psychological study in murder and the build up and after effects of such a deed (except of course getting away with it). And it's also not serious in that it's actually pretty bloody funny in parts too.

The part I laughed out loud to was the part involving the coked out rapper bunkered down in his studio working on 30 minute songs. I also loved the indie bands portrayed in here. I wondered what bands they were based on and then thought they're all the same anyway so all of them. There's also a lot of corporate ladder climbing by our wily protagonist which leads to the murders.

It's a really quick and funny read satirising the music industry and I loved it. John Niven's character voice is bloody minded but strangely likeable and always interesting. Good stuff. Encore!

Kill Your Friends
This is a razor sharp witty tale of a guy working in the music industry in the mid nineties. The main protagonist Steven should be very unlikeable but due to his refusal to ever apologize for his actions or repent he becomes quite a fascinating character. What starts off as quite an amusing piece of observational comedy soon develops into a quite tense and brutally dark horror comedy.
Not for the easily offended but ideal for music fans and lovers of pop culture.

Highly entertaining. I constantly questioned what is truth and what is poetic license. Scary part is, I feel there is more truth than fiction! Love it :)

Unexpectedly cool
If you're stuck finding something fun and light after devouring No Hope for Gomez!, you might have come to the right place.

The first thing that inevitably comes to mind when reading Kill Your Friends is how similar it is to American Psycho. From the nihilistic, style-over-substance views of the narrator, right down to the actual style of writing. It's even set in the decade before its time of writing, hoping to have us believe that ten years ago, the world was a cesspool of greed and depravity - hadn't we noticed? But there's more going on here. Once you look past all the similarities (which may take you a while) you'll notice this book is actually a fun read, with all the little details that Niven throws into his description working both beautifully and effortlessly. The attention to detail is astonishing and I found myself picking the book up time and again for another quick read.

While not as outright funny as 'No Hope for Gomez!', it does create a world all its own.
