4-0 out of 5 stars As promised
This book shipped just as promised. There were a few highlighted areas of text and you could tell it was used, but it is exactly what I was expecting and what I paid for.Shipping was quicker than I expected and I would definitely purchase form them again.Great job!

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful in Academic Settings
I've used this book when teaching a human-computer interaction (HCI) course in an engineering psychology program. While there are two extensive texts on HCI I found their emphasis too much on the engineering side. Bailey, while including good technical material, also provides a perspective that fits well with engineering psychology. His information combines well with that in books by Wickens.

Bailey's material goes well beyond PC issues and provides good understanding of various system design techniques. For exampe, his descriptions of ATM system design gives good direction on how to do design. He provides a good foundation on such important topics as human limits, human senses, memory, usability assessment, task analysis and ways to help people work better.

While this book isn't cheap, it is worth every penny (or kronor).
It is on my shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book..
It's a very good book. I liked it because it illustrates many problems with human computer interaction/design and it also gives you hints on how to avoid these problems. The book is very straightforward and easy to understand. I specially enjoyed the sections dealing with readability and reading distances. This is the preferred book to have on my bookshelf when I'm designing consumer products. Happy reading ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bushido
This book describes japanese mind very well although it was published about 100 years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taguchi's Quality Engineering Handbook
I'm a university professor in Taiwan teaching Taguchi's methods for more than 10 years. Taguchi's methods are useful, pratical, and benefical to product and process development. This book systematically introduces the methods. The book is unique because few English books, if exists any, cover the Taguchi Methods so thoroughly and up-to-date. The 94 cases studied are extraordinary precious. For those could not read Japanese literature, this book is the best and the most comprehensive one regarding the Taguchi Methods. To my personal opnion, the shortcoming of the book, as most of the books discussing Taguchi's methods by Dr. Taguchi, is that the math (analysis of variance, calculations of SN ratios, etc.) seems unnecessarily complicated.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent contents but not reader friendly
Book is surely for anyone trying to do reliability and quality improvement job in competitive market conditions and covers excellent contents, case studies etc.

However it is not reader's friendly as far as providing easy understanding. Book reading makes you look Quality Engineering more complex task then it is or in other words does not make things easy for readers and practioners (so it gains more acceptability and wide spread benefits). Which I feel should be main purpose of it.

However still considering methods benefits it is must and one of the best available book for anyone who wants to compete and lead in market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Three words Excellent Excellent and Excellent
Really Good book. Book is written very consciously keeping all aspect of most promising but controversial topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!!! SIMPLY GREAT!
well, if you are like me, always busy, and trying to find new answers to unknown problems using taguchi or other quality engineering problems, THIS IS YOUR BOOK!! this book has great cases, applicable to MANY INDUSTRIES!! it is like my Bible, i tried to sell it once, and simply BROKE MY HEART and I COULD NOT!!

This book, is an excellent job, I WISHED ONLY I WISHED!!! that my tractor or my previous car (CHEVY) was designed using REAL ROBUST DESIGN METHODS BY TAGUCHI, in that way, I would not need to go to the repair shop every now and then... :=), enjoy guys, it is simply a MASTER PIECE! considering that I worked for a japanese company as well, this book is great!!! 2-0 out of 5 stars Not for college classes
This is a different book from the hardcover version. We did a quick comparison with the regular textbook and some of the questions were different. This will make it very difficult to complete assignments. At the bottom of the cover it says this is the International Version. Also, it states in large print "this book is not to be sold in the US".

4-0 out of 5 stars Statistical Quality Control
Shipped and received as expected. Book is in same condition as stated. No problems with the transaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction for Those with Little Background
If you want to take your knowledge of statistics and see how it is applied in the arena of Statistical Process Control (SPC) this book is a great place to start. A prior background in statistics will be very helpful in understanding the underlying concepts. A more basic introduction to some of the underlying distributions discussed may help the concepts make more sense. Overall, the text seems quite comprehensive in its coverage of SPC. It should give a newcomer to the field a firm foundation for further exploration.

2-0 out of 5 stars was an "accpetable" category - not a "good" one as mentioned
this book was much used then I expected.. did got marks with even a ball pen. pencil was ok.. was not mentioned in the ad. it was advertized as a "goood" or "very good" condition, which was not true.

also the seller was a slow responsive to the email enquiry when I asked for the status of the shipment. though the book was almost on time.. but did not have any tracking #.

3-0 out of 5 stars not for sale in the US
If you are buying this book for a class, don't. this book has different problems than the hardcover. I thought i was saving some cash by getting the softcover becuase it is advertised as the same as the hardcover, while content wise it is, it is not coursework wise. I am reposting mine for sale. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars clearly written book
This is a clearly written book that presents Taguchi's ideas on quality control. Explained nicely is the loss function of Taguchi that has become so popular. Also, discussed in detail are models for online quality control, tolerancing, and preventive maintenance.(This book is not about Taguchi's celebrated work on design of experiments.) Although some theory appears to be heuristically derived, what needs to be pointed out here is that some of these methods have been used in Toyota! So there is a clear value to reading about them. One would think this would be mandatory reading for a graduate course on quality control, but instead the book has gone out of print! When I was a graduate student, I was really lucky to have a professor who used this book as a text book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Field (Pun Intended)
If you only buy one book on the application of statistics and probability to the creation of control charts (SPC) and acceptance sampling, this is it.Dale wrote the original first text on SPC back when the only literature on the subject was found in periodicals and research papers. It took him over 3000 manhours to write this concise text and it's bank of clear, understandable problems. The text earned him the title of full Professor at Southern Illinois University and a national reputation as it was used by Ford Motor Company and others for internal training. After teaching from it for almost 20 years I can assure you there is no better book on the subject in the field.(And, yes, I know Dale personally, but have had virtually no contact with him since his retirement many years ago).

Product Description
Bridging the gap between power quality and signal processing

This innovative new text brings together two leading experts, one from signal processing and the other from power quality. Combining their fields of expertise, they set forth and investigate various types of power quality disturbances, how measurements of these disturbances are processed and interpreted, and, finally, the use and interpretation of power quality standards documents.

As a practical aid to readers, the authors make a clear distinction between two types of power quality disturbances:
* Variations: disturbances that are continuously present
* Events: disturbances that occur occasionally

A complete analysis and full set of tools are provided for each type of disturbance:
* Detailed examination of the origin of the disturbance
* Signal processing measurement techniques, including advanced techniques and those techniques set forth in standards documents
* Interpretation and analysis of measurement data
* Methods for further processing the features extracted from the signal processing into site and system indices

The depth of coverage is outstanding: the authors present and analyze material that is not covered in the standards nor found in the scientific literature.

This text is intended for two groups of readers: students and researchers in power engineering who need to use signal processing techniques for power system applications, and students and researchers in signal processing who need to perform power system disturbance analyses and diagnostics. It is also highly recommended for any engineer or utility professional involved in power quality monitoring. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good understandable methods
An introduction to the Taguchi methodology as a systematic strategy for designing product and process tests that will reduce product or process variation. This text aims to make this method understandable to all professionals in quality control and non-statisticians and it does this very well.

Having been educated from an engineering perspective I found these ideas were in common usage, however the techniques were not applied to organisations, especially services until the mid 90s through the influence of Lean Manufacturing and a mature quality movement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Taguchi Methods
I have been a fan of Taguchi methods for some 16 years now due to their simplicity and understandability. Dr. Taguchi gave all engineers a great gift when he took statistical design of experiments(DOE) out of the realm of esoteric statistical academia and made it digestable for the average engineer. Mr. Ross has furthered this noble effort by writing an easily-read compendium explaining DOE per Taguchi's approach! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars A complete course for Taguchi Engineering Techniques
Maybe the most known and recurrently used Taguchi techniques are the Orthogonal Arrays for DOE; but they're not the only ones that Taguchi developed in order to achieve a quality product design. The Loss Function, the S/N ratio and the Tolerance Design are part of the "Robust Engineering" that consolidated Taguchi as the quality guru he is.

Many general DOE concepts are so well explained in this book that it represents a great introductory text to this subject. Nevertheless this is a Taguchi techniques book, not a complete DOE text, so it's possible that you'd like to look for "Design and Analysis of Experiments" by Douglas C. Montgomery.

This book is highly valuable if you want to understand the Taguchi philosophy for developing quality products and a must have for DOE beginners.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for anyone with no practical experience in DOE
Seems to be written for people with no background in designing experiments.Gives you a good start and gives you the basic information on Taguchi methods.A favorite of Engineering students since it is extremely easy to follow.Great first book for someone starting out with Design of Experiments.Covers the full problem solving process with DOE being a part of the process.

Minimal information is given regarding Classical DOE.If you have an academic or Engineering background and are interested in learning experimental designs other than Taguchi methods, then buy the "Statistics for Experimenters: An Introduction to Design, Data Analysis, and Model Building" By: George E. P. Box, et al. -- the Classical DOE reference handbook for Engineers. ... Read more

Product Description
In the resilience engineering approach to safety, failures and successes are seen as two different outcomes of the same underlying process, namely how people and organizations cope with complex, underspecified and therefore partly unpredictable work environments. Therefore safety can no longer be ensured by constraining performance and eliminating risks. Instead, it is necessary to actively manage how people and organizations adjust what they do to meet the current conditions of the workplace, by trading off efficiency and thoroughness and by making sacrificing decisions."The Ashgate Studies in Resilience Engineering" series promulgates new methods, principles and experiences that can complement established safety management approaches, providing invaluable insights and guidance for practitioners and researchers alike in all safety-critical domains. While the Studies pertain to all complex systems they are of particular interest to high hazard sectors such as aviation, ground transportation, the military, energy production and distribution, and healthcare.Published periodically within this series will be edited volumes titled "Resilience Engineering Perspectives". The first volume, "Remaining Sensitive to the Possibility of Failure", presents a collection of 20 chapters from international experts.
