Becker did it right.He started with his own research and how he discovered that the work of Royal Rife and Dr. Tennant is correct, that electromedicine is a way to heal bones, kill microbes and even effect cancers.I recommend it for anyone interested in alternative medical practices that work.

Body Electric is chucked full of interesting history of laboratory experimentation and telling results, which uncovered our electrical interconnection with the earth's magnetic makeup, all living things, and the solar system's effects on all life. I had trouble putting the book down to take care of daily business. What a great read!

The initial rejection of discoveries in science has hardly altered since the days of Galileo. Disbelief remains proportional to the magnitude of the discovery, even when it is supported by experimental proof. This attitude prompted Robert Becker to seek public acceptance for his novel work on wound care.Currently billions of dollars are expended in this field, with only modest returns and revolutionary ideas are needed.
They can be found in"The Body Electric", Dr. Becker's quest for better ways to promote wound and bone healing. He started with experiments on animals that can regenerate body parts.A salamander for example, can re-grow an amputated limb. Following the insult, a collection of primitive cells known as a blastema forms at the site of injury and these cells subsequently differentiate into a fully formed limb.The controlling factors appear to be intact nerves, certain hormones and surprisingly, electric current. The latter is probably generated in the brain and spinal cord and travels down peripheral nerves to control aspects of regeneration.
Humans too have a bioelectric field and Becker, by applying minute amounts of electric current to wounds, demonstrated rapid healing and varying degrees of tissue regeneration.An incidental finding was that silver ions, released by the silver electrodes that were used, could kill most wound germs and also promote regenerative healing
Becker stresses that only minute amounts of electricity are beneficial and devotes several chapters to the potential hazardsof the electromagnetic fields that surround us from cellular phones, microwave ovens and other sources.Although interesting, this portion of the book rather spoils its main theme - seeking a means of tissue regeneration in humans.

The book was received in a timely manner but I ordered and paid for a hardcover copy and received and soft cover book.At this point, I was unable to return the book as classes had begun for the semester and the exchange, if given, would have taken a long time thus leaving me without the appropriate book.

I love this book, and I don't really like electromagnetism. Pollack and Stump use an easily understood writing style that is concise, thorough, and occasionally witty. Their use of extensive examples is great for the visual learner. This book covers a full academic year's worth of advanced electricity and magnetism courses.

The authors achieved a very interesting balance between the mathematical level and the introductory nature of the book (if you don't already master the math, you will have to learn it in order to understand the text... which is good). It has a good number of worked out examples, and the problems are challenging without being unsolvable. One characteristic of these is that they require a good comprehension of the material and therefore, you will not go on to the next chapter without learning the material (hopefully). The structure of the book is pretty much standard. Mathematically, the book is not self-contained, but that does not affect my rating because it is not intended to be. With a good foundation (or book) in vector calculus and maybe a more elementary book in E&M (Griffiths? Yeah, I agree with a previous reviewer that it might be an expensive proposition), you will be more than ready to learn E&M.

Whether you are a student in engineering or physics field, you should get this book.The author is terrific in explaining things.It's complete and to-the-point.After reading this book, not only would your understanding of E/M increase tenfold, your mathematical ability strengthens along with it too!

This book is not really for 100% beginner.You must be rather well versed in vector calculus.

My only complaint about this book is that only about 3 pages are devoted to discussing numerical methods, which is not sufficient from my point of view.Despite this shortcoming, THIS BOOK IS BY FAR THE BEST!!! Buy it with Griffith's book, this is ALL you'll ever need to learn E/M!!

I used this book for a 2 semester course in E&M. I absolutely hated it for the first semester, but it's merits became apparent during the second semester. The treatment of statics is inadequate at best, but Pollack and Stump do a great job from the chapter on Maxwell's equations on. The chapter on relativity and tensors alone makes this book a worthwhile buy. I would suggest using Griffith's for statics and Pollack and Stump for dynamics, but given the cost of both books thats probably going to be an expensive proposition. ... Read more

I bought this book because it is the textbook in my course of Electromagnetism Theory(PHYS809). It is a nice book, though a little bit advanced --- much mathematics in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes Jackson seem like Casey Stengel
I'm a physics grad student who has been struggling with J.D. Jackson's book for a semester now. In my endless search for anything and everything to help explain Jackson's 'explanations,' I came across this fantastic book at the library. Very new, published February 2005, and quite up to date. His explanations are exceedingly clear, derivations easy to follow (though not watered down any), and mathematics precise. He covers all the standard topics- Green's functions, Legendre and Bessel equations, gauge transformations, waveguides, ... all the stuff at the heart of any grad-level E&M course. He even does so at the level of Jackson. But somehow he manages to avoid the 13 pages of math for each concept that Jackson introduces.

I'd strongly recommend this book to any fellow student, whether seeing the material for the first time or studying for quals. You should note, however, that Franklin chooses to use cgs throughout (something which I appreciate- I share his view that SI bogs down the equations and theories in E&M). For what it's worth...

This book is an invaluable resource, providing a huge selection of problems to work on and solutions that can help you if you get stuck.It also gives a very good overview of the types of problems that are likely to appear on qualifying exams (though the exams from your own school are more useful for that).

These books are about preparing for qualifiers, not teaching the material.It is assumed that the reader already knows what they're doing and just wants to work through problems, so of course there are scant explanations.I found it useful to work through the problems and make notes of relevant equations that I had forgotten.

My only real complaint is that the index is utterly useless, although that's a minor drawback.

As a physicist, I've read several physics books published by professors from different countries. It's the first time and it will be the last time I ever buy books published by these Chinese authors; they appear to be quite irresponsible. I found a few "Typo Errors ??" and requested clarification from the authors and publisher. So far they never reply.
It also appears that the authors do not quite understand the subjects well enough to come up with a sound solutions to the problems posed in the book. They seem to memorize formulas in physics rather than having a deep understanding like Dr. Richard Feyman or Dr. David Griffith .etc.
DON'T BUY THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU HAVE SOME MONEY TO WASTE.

This book is only useful if you attend one of the universities where the questions where adapted from. The problems cover only basic electromagnetics, it does not cover advanced electromagnetic problems such as scattering (physical optics, geometric optics/geometric theory of diffraction,...), mode-matcing, and integral equations. This book only helped me to review statics. Do not buy this book unless you want a basic refresher on electromagnetics.

This book is worth buying for two good reasons 1) its an excellent treatment of extremely important concepts of electricity, magnetism and interaction of light with matter and 2) because its very affordable and very readable. Its good read for physicists, and its more than useful for material and / or polymer scientists, who use light as a tool to investigate properties of matter. Basic concepts are explained quite well here, and like many other Dover texts, it is terse, cheap and yet masterful.

This is one of the finest books on E&M. Uses SI units, ... units cause much confusion in E&M, this book was one of the first to use SI units. As most introductory Calculus based courses now use SI units this is a good second course. Very good example using the "method of images," a topic that confused me my first time through. I had a Physics prof. that gave me good advice at this point, ... I am a good, not a gifted science student, my prof. had the modesty to tell me to move on, ... "nobody understands Physics with one reading, ... or even two, sometimes it takes years, or even a lifetime."
This book reads well and treats a few difficult topics with the simplest examples possible. You need only basic calculus and desire, and possibly more than one reading. I stick this book in my back pocket, just in case a little insight comes my way.

This is a very good book to follow the study of, say, Haliday. Slater was, in writing it, worried about teaching methods of theoretical physics, as well as of electromagnetism. The text is brief and to the point, with theelegance typical of the master Slater was. Maybe the strongest point,however, are the exercises. These are the best you will find in any book onEM.

The books by Slater (one of the great professors at MIT) are known by the low sophistication of formalism combined with a deep physical insight, apparent in the way problems are solved, using analogies, clever simplifications, numerical estimates, etc. It's physics, Fermi style. Though the theory is very sound, it is in the problems that the book excells. If you work through them, you're done with electromagnetism, and you'll love it forever. ... Read more

The text is lucid in its presentation of what is often viewed as a difficult subject.

Starting with no more than a sound understanding of sixth form (high school) Mathematics and Physics, the authors proceed to underpin elementary concepts of electrostatics, simple circuits, and magnetism with the rigour and completeness demanded at University level. New mathematical ideas are introduced gently (so naturally, in fact, that the reader does not feel that (s)he is being asked to learn some new things!) and blended into the key Physical concepts.

The book accelerates through a whole lot of material and tacitly introduces the reader to Maxwell's Equations without calling them so. Only after all of the core physical concepts - Dielectrics, Steady Currents and Magnetic Fields, Ferromagnetism, Electromagnetism/Induction - have been covered, do the authors venture to integrate the mathematics into Maxwell's equations. This emphasis on the Physics (with the Mathematics working merely as a tool) works really well and is central to the readability of this book.

The latter chapters explore Transmission Lines, Electromagnetic Waves (which the mathematically inclined texts like to boast about as solutions of Maxwell's Equations), and the beginnings of Relativistic Electrodynamics.

All in all, an excellent, enjoyable book - highly recommended! Makes Physics fun!

This book was very good and it informed me of alot ofi did not know about electromagnetism and how the europeans stole alot of afrikan ideas and devices and used them for their own gain and deny the very existence of technology in afrika. i recommend this book to any and everyone. When I was a student of eletronics. I was mostly fascinated with electricity, and sinewaves. The Ankh and the Jed or Tet with the coil wrapped around them reminded me of many things that I had forgotten so long ago. Too bad I gave this book away, after I read it, because I would like to read it again.

This book is really fascinating because it's dealing with plain truths that are present in everyday electronic engineering. I am a former member of the U.S. Armed Forces with tours in the National Security Agency, (NSA) and I can tell you that many of the things that are discussed in this book are a reality within the intelligence community. Physics 212 (Modern Physics) is a required course for Aerospace Engineering Students at KFUPM University in Saudi Arabia. I bought this book instead of Schaum's Outline of Modern Physics (ISBN 0070248303) as it was out of print when I needed to buy it. Only 107 out of 527 pages of this book, which I bought, covers the chapters related to modern physics. Therefore, it does not, to my way of thinking, worth to buy it if Schaum's Outline of Modern Physics (ISBN 0070248303) is on stock. However, if this book, which I did not buy, is out of print. Then I have got another talk.

Schaum's outline Beginning physics II: waves, electromagnetism, optics, and modern physics explains modern physics concepts very well indeed.More importantly, it solves problems clearly. Moreover, it helped me a lot in doing my homeworks problems quickly. Finally, it has a lot of solved problems of different ideas that I did not find in the textbook I used for this course, which was Modern Physics (ISBN 0030015472).

I strongly believe that you can make use of this book not only in your modern physics, but also in freshman physics courses as it covers topics such as waves and electromagnetism, which I had already studied in my freshman year physics courses. So, this book could be helpful for you inmore than two physics courses and, in that case, you will hit two birds with one stone if you buy this book. In addition, it is possible that you find Schaum's Outline of Modern Physics (ISBN 0070248303) to be not good. Then, in that event, you know the alternative: Make a beeline to this book.

This is not what I though it would be given the title and above review...in fact 1-star is too generous. It is correct to state that this e-book has physics formulas and tables related to thermodynamics, optics, quantum physics, etc and BEGINNING students may find it somewhat useful since it does have some rather vague explanations of the formulas.However, as a reference it falls and it is practically useless compared to the "Cambridge Handbook of Physics Formulas" or the "Physicist's Desk Reference"...both of which I use on a day to day basis.

My recommendation: If the Cambridge Handbook of Physics Formulas is available as an e-book, get it instead.

Carver Mead has taken a courageous stance against wave-particle duality: I am in full agreement with this stance and with what he is trying to achieve, but can unfortunately not support his approach.

He starts off with a superconducting ring and then includes voltage V into his very first equations; notwithstanding the fact that the defining characteristic of super-conduction is that there is NO voltage involved whatsoever.

Furthermore he then uses the concept that the current can be modeled in terms of a coherent harmonic matter-wave which moves around a ring. Although the latter approach is used to model super-conduction, it is not physically possible for ANY coherent, harmonic wave to follow a circular path.

These two mistakes unfortunately cause the follow-on arguments in his book to be just as incorrect as the traditional models for super-conduction are. It is a great pity since his conclusions that both matter and light consist ONLY of harmonic waves, are correct; but not for the reasons that he is giving.

It is far simpler to realize that an electron-wave is a light wave with inertia: It has mass-energy and thus an inertial reference frame within which it is a time-independent standing wave. This immediately ties up Schroedinger's equation with Maxwell's equations: i.e. Schroedinger's equation is already commensurate with Einstein's theory of relativity.

Carver Mead is a brilliant inventor and engineer but he does not understand the "foundations of electromagnetism" in the way Feynman would have understood these words.
Don't buy this over mathematical book. Instead buy thebooks that go to the heart ofelectromagnetism. They recognize that Nature is Simple; All the Natural Laws depend on only three properties of Space. Accordingly, the books are simple. Readers will enjoy them. Awards have been given:They are:

I found out about this book through reading Milo Wolff's work. This book places some of Wolff's ideas into a rigorous mathematical framework. The last chapter of Collective Electrodynamics provides an amazing answer to a question that I've been wondering about for years - "How and why do quantum jumps take place?" Just for this, it was worth purchasing this book.

This book and Wolff's books provide the best explanation of quantum physics that I have ever read. After reading these works, one sees that quantum physics is not mysterious and mystical at all. It is actually very reasonable.

As of today, Thanksgiving, 22November2007, there are ten reviews of this book posted. None of them, nor all of them together, is adequate. I urge prospective buyers to read the American Spectator interview with Carver Mead. The Spectator has taken down its copy, but a few are still available online. Google "Carver Mead Collective Electrodynamics Spectator Interview", withoug quotation marks.

One reviewer says here that Mead's arguments against Bohr and Heisenberg were advanced during the 1930's, and were refuted. I wonder if he understands anything anyone has said. The Spectator writes,

"Central to Mead's rescue project are a series of discoveries inconsistent with the prevailing conceptions of quantum mechanics. One was the laser. As late as 1956, Bohr and Von Neumann, the paragons of quantum theory, arrived at the Columbia laboratories of Charles Townes, who was in the process of describing his invention. With the transistor, the laser is one of the most important inventions of the twentieth century. Designed into every CD player and long distance telephone connection, lasers today are manufactured by the billions. At the heart of laser action is perfect alignment of the crests and troughs of myriad waves of light. Their location and momentum must be theoretically knowable. But this violates the holiest canon of Copenhagen theory: Heisenberg Uncertainty. Bohr and Von Neumann proved to be true believers in Heisenberg's rule. Both denied that the laser was possible. When Townes showed them one in operation, they retreated artfully.

"In Collective Electrodynamics, Mead cites nine other experimental discoveries, from superconductive currents to masers, to Bose-Einstein condensates predicted by Einstein but not demonstrated until 1995. These discoveries of large-scale, coherent quantum phenomena all occurred after Bohr's triumph over Einstein."

When all the waves of all the atoms in a system are synchronized, the system is coherent. Scientists during the 1930's were not able to synchronize the waves. When all atoms are synchronized, matter is a wave. Mead proves this by experiment. When the waves are not synchronized, they interfere with each other. Perhaps it is true, what some reviewers say here, that Mead does not really develop a complete theory of electrodynamics; but he does demonstrate conclusively from actual experiments his main contention:

Bohr taught the correspondence principle, which says that as quantum numbers get large, the behavior approximates a Newtonian mechanical system. But modern experiments show that as quantum numbers get large, behavior diverges more and more from a mechanical system. What large quantum numbers develop into is an electrodynamical system. Under that paradigm, if the system is coherent, Mead has a perfect solution to Schrodinger's wave equation; and the uncertainty principle disappears.

I started with minimal knowledge in vector calculus and was very much discouraged by the fact that I was unable to evaluate even a naive-looking integral (that comes with a reciprocal of some radical). This book was THEONLY BOOK that taught me how to do that.
