Good Air Quality Primer, Seconded
The review I was going to write is almost exactly like the first review posted giving it 4 stars, so I will just second everything mentioned.Good air quality primer for the environmental professional, but if you are already an air quality scientist or specialist, you may find it a little basic.Excellent overall quality and information on all the air quality issues affecting North America today.

Good Air Quality Primer
This book provides a good foundation in air quality issues bringing together the basic meteorology, chemistry, biology, and political/regulatory information needed to understand the field. The book assumes some basic science background but Godish presents technical information clearly enough for environmental managers and nontechnical professionals to get a basic understanding of air quality issues. Godish could make the book more accessable to introductory students by spending more time defining and explaining some of the technical terminology in the book. As it is, some students may have to spend more time with the dictionary than they are used to. Air quality professionals will find this book a good refresher but those looking for a technically advanced book should look elsewhere. The treatment of regulatory issues emphasizes the US. Non-americans will still benefit from the bulk of the book. For an introductory student looking for a start in the field, I would give the book 4 stars, for an environmental manager looking to gain a better understanding of air quality or an air quality professional looking for a good refresher, I would give the book five stars, for an air quality professional looking for a technical reference, I would give the book 2 to 3 stars. ... It's a technical read. Probably not recommended for the average consumer. A must have for the professional. You might think you know everything in this book. You probably do. But the diagrams, charts and discussions on how to investigate building related health complaints make a great reference.

Good Overview
This book provides a good overview of air permitting and good explanations of many of the issues involved. I don't think it "...shows facility air quality managers, regulatory agency staff, and consultants how to prepare permit applications for Title V Federal Operating Permits or for New Source Review (NSR)or Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) perrmits for new or modified sources of air pollutant emissions, and how to comply with permits obtained." The differences between different facilities and states are too great for one book to do all that. Most books providing advice about air permitting imagine the reader is working for some "Mega-firm" with a team of eager co-workers. They might prove more useful if they focused on the poor guy locked alone in a room with six inches of forms and a bad calculator. Still, Leonard knows his material and provides many useful insights into the permit process.He writes clearly, has organized his material well and does a better job with a huge topic than any other book I have found.

This book is a thorough and methodical survey of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, one of the most complicated and expansive pieces of environmental legislation ever enacted in the US, and is suitable for attorneys and non-lawyers alike. Chapters - each written by different experts in the field - cover a single program or sub-part of a program in considerable detail, discussing history, statutory framework, and regulatory development up to around 2005. Air professionals will benefit from the program-by-program approach, which lets them zero in on a topic of concern, and most of the chapters are lucent enough that a non-technical reader wouldn't get too lost. Indoor Air Pollution has become a major topic in environmental research and health. Most people spend more than 80 % of their time in buildings and are exposed to a broad range of pollutants from indoor sources like building materials, furniture, carpets and textiles, heating and cooking, household and consumer products etc. The volume on Indoor Air Pollution (IAP) provides a comprehensive review on the major indoor air pollutants: volatile organic compounds, biocides, indoor particles and fibres, combustion products and micro organisms and their metabolites. Sources and sinks of air pollutants in indoor environments and their chemistry are distinctly different from ambient air pollution even though the latter may influence indoor air quality. Adsorption and desorption processes, the pollutant source dynamics, gas phase reactions and kinetics + including the fate and final chemical destiny of chemically unstable intermediate compounds - are topics of scientific research as well as the evaluation of their sensory impact and irritation potential.
