I collected samples and brought them back to my lab on ice. I observed what appears to be a mesh work of hyphae, as well as a high concentration of coral mucus. I have heard that someone has isolated a fungus (European marine biologists) I see this particular syndrome closer to the continental slope, and it seems to disappear in the outer reefs (far away from anthropogenic run-off or deforestation). If this pink blotch is isolated and proven to be a confirmed fungus and not a symbiotic consortium of bacteria, would it be easy to link this un-known species to the land as a soil based microbe from soil run-off?

Answer The eyelid skin is the thinnest in the body, and with age it becomes even thinner and the fat around the eyes begins to protrude forward giving a baggy appearance. Potential causes of pink eyelids might include: contact allergy; environmental allergy; thyroid disease (Grave's Disease); liver disease; an eyelid disorders (obstructed gland; inflammation); and fluid retention.     Extractions: Water rots of potato are a problem that many growers deal with to some degree every year. Tubers that have water rot appear discolored and may have a waterlogged appearance that will often be dotted with white tufts of fungal growth. There are actually two different types of water rot, pink rot and Pythium leak, each caused by a different fungus. PINK ROT Probably the most prevalent of the two water rots is pink rot caused by the soil-borne fungus Phytophthora erythroseptica . This disease can be found in the field before harvest and is characterized by rotted tuber tissues that turn pink after exposure to air for 20 to 30 minutes. Another important diagnostic trait for pink rot is that the rot will usually appear to start from the stem end of the tuber and will then progress through the tuber in a very uniform manner, often with a nearly straight line between the healthy and the diseased portions of the tuber. Pure pink rot is not a slimy soft rot, but infected tissues are easily, and often invaded by soft rot bacteria which will cause this symptom. In a tuber that is infected with the pink rot fungus alone, the rotted tissues will retain some structure and firmness but not nearly as much as the healthy portions of the tuber. The texture of the infected tuber tissue is much like that of a boiled potato. We refer to this as a "cooked potato" texture. Another feature of pink rot is the characteristic smell of ammonia that is given off by pink rot infected tubers. This odor can frequently be defected in potato storages prior to the development of visual symptoms.

PBW population data were collected by the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) from over 1000 locations in Punjab province in Pakistan between June 8 and Oct 26,1998. The population data are based on moths counted in sex pheromone traps weekly. Data are expressed as moth catches per trap per night. The time span covers most of the growing season of cotton in Pakistan. The sample locations are shown in figure 1 . The data were analyzed in the Department of Plant Pathology in the University of Arizona using Geostastistics and GIS. We are trying to find the temporal and spatial patterns of pest and disease epidemics, which can be consulted as part of a pest management program. The temporal and spatial patterns are shown below. Results and analysis: Figure 2( click the figure to see details of analysis Temporal patterns .The PBW population is very low at the beginning of the season in most of the sampled area. Figure 2 show the results from each district. In figure 2 we can see the trend of PBW population during the season in all of districts where samples were taken : 1) The PBW populations increase progressively from June 8th to around July 27th; 2) They come to a peak between July 20th and Aug 3rd; 3)The populations level off or decline ofter Aug 3rd. Trap counts are relatively high until the end of the season. In some of the districts, the values have a slight increase after Oct 12th (For example, the Sahiwal, Rannanpur and Layyah districts).
