John Wishart 's family moved from Montrose to Perth in Scotland when John was two years old. He attended Perth Academy and then, in 1916, entered the University of Edinburgh. There he was taught mathematics by E T Whittaker World War I meant that Wishart's university career was disrupted. He spent two years from 1917 to 1919 in the Black Watch regiment and served in France in 1918. He completed his university course in 1922, graduating with a First Class degree in mathematics and physics. He had taken a teacher training course at Moray House as part of his degree and, after graduating, he moved to Leeds accepting a post as mathematics teacher at West Leeds High School. In 1924, after a recommendation from Whittaker , Wishart was offered a post in University College London as assistant to Pearson Pearson had a project for Wishart to work on and, given that

TRAVEL SICKNESS:
The Need for A Sustainable Transport Policy
John Roberts, Johanna Cleary, Kerry Hamilton Judith Hanna (eds) (foreword by John Prescott)
Britain's growing transport crisis affects the daily lives of almost every UK citizen. Whether stuck in traffic jams, left waiting for overcrowded buses and tubes, priced off rail travel, or frightened by our noisy, polluted and dangerous roads, no one escapes the chaotic consequences of the fact that Britain does not have an integrated transport policy. With the election of a Labour government, and with John Prescott in charge of this area of policy, now is the time to reopen the debate.
Originally presented by an independent group of analysts to John Prescott, this comprehensive collection of papers identifies current problems and outlines objectives for an environmentally and economically sustainable transport policy. Drawing on a pool of expert research, knowledge and experience, Travel Sickness is a vital source of innovatory but realistic solutions to the impending breakdown of Britain's transport system.
'Travel Sickness is well researched and incontrovertible. If you want a realistic alternative to current transport policy, look no further, this is it.' Don Joyce, New Cyclist

#149 John Knox Dreamed Big for God and Scotland
John Knox was in Ormiston, Scotland, on the fateful evening in 1546 when Cardinal Beaton arrested George Wishart. John tried to defend his friend with steel, but Wishart plucked the sword out of his hand. He would burn for preaching reform in Scotland but John need not. Wishart's death helped map John's future. Others besides John Knox admired Wishart. Certain reform-minded Scots were so outraged by his execution that they assassinated Beaton in his castle at St. Andrews and holed up within its walls.

Charlotte Taylor Her Life and Times Blake's Time
Wishart Period
The Story of Charlotte Taylor by Mary Lynn Smith We return to the Story of Charlotte Taylor. It is 1785 and the Widow Blake is still residing in the Black Brook area of the Miramichi River with four young children. The oldest, Elizabeth Williams (Willisams) is about ten years of age . John, Mary Ann (Polly) and Robert Blake, children of the deceased Captain John Blake, are all under the age of eight. There is a servant living with them on the south side of the river. According to the Daniel Micheau Survey The north side of the river appeared more heavily populated. Looking at this Survey we get a picture of the degree of settlement at that exact time. It must be noted however, that many settlers, especially the 'old settlers'; were not happy or satisfied with this Survey. Many had received their original over-sized grants from the government in Nova Scotia, through Captain Boyle in 1777. The area was filling up with 'new settlers' - Loyalists, soldiers of disbanded regiments, and immigrants from the British Isles in the aftermath of the American Revolution. Surveys were being done and Land Grants were being reorganized under the auspices of the newly created Province of New Brunswick. This transitional period was a time of high anxiety for 'old settlers' as they fought to retain their original Nova Scotia Land Grants. Looking at the Daniel Micheau Survey of 1785 it appeared that Widow Blake and her family were living a good distance from any neighbours at that time. She was five Lots from the Murdochs and seven from where Daniel Menton was preparing to build his house. But the Blakes may have had a 'neighbour' just above them in 1782 in the vicinity of Lot 10. Whether he was still beside them at the time this Survey was done is unknown. The information about this 'neighbour' was revealed in a letter, written to the Hon. Martin Hunter, President of his Majesty's Council and Commander in Chief of the Province of New Brunswick. The

Miata Differential/Axle Seal Replacement Tips
by John Wishart - john.wishart@compaq.com
Stuff needed:
  • Large flat blade screwdriver or pry bar (2 are helpful) 14 mm wrench 3/8" drive torque wrench is helpful Pipe handle extender or long breaker bar for applying more torque to break the nuts loose Hydraulic jack or lift Wheel lug wrench Tire jack Jack stands Hammer, soft face or use wood block for pad Liquid Wrench Oil drain pan Drift punch 2 differential - axle seals Gear oil, 90 weight (I used Valvoline synthetic 75W-90), 1 quart Paper towels or rags
Caution : This procedure was done on a '92 Miata with standard differential. I don't know if it applies to later/earlier models or limited slip diffs. Basically what we're doing here is removing the stub axles from the sides of the differential housing, removing and replacing the seals, then putting everything back together. Set the hand brake. Leave the transmission in neutral so you'll be able to rotate the driveshaft later. Jack up the car. The differential housing is a good place to do this, since there are two bosses on it for this purpose. Then support the rear of the vehicle on the jack stands. I put them under the boxes adjacent to the rear tie-down hooks just inside the rear bumper area. I couldn't get the vehicle high enough with my lift to use the side jacking points. Block the front wheels so the car can't go anywhere. Remove both rear wheels.
