RESEARCH INTERESTS The most important current targets are carbocyclic nucleoside analogues such as those shown below. These are analogues of known anticancer, antiviral and antibacterial compounds and an efficient synthesis of compounds of this type would be most desirable. The subject of this research is the development of a short, clean and versatile route to these types of compounds based on radical cyclisation chemistry. The general approach to be utilised is outlined below (scheme 1). The cyclisation of alkyne tethered oxime ethers is used to produce appropriately substituted carbocycles with an exo vinyl sulfide substituent. This vinyl sulfide can then be manipulated in a number of ways to produce different carbon substituents at the nucleoside 2' position. Well-known chemistry can then be used to convert the oxime ether moiety to any of the natural or unnatural nucleoside bases. Web Editor - Chanel Swindells

At Cambridge he was taught by Hardy Littlewood and Besicovitch . His final examination results were sent to him by Besicovitch who wrote:- Easily at the top of the First Class. Heartiest Congratulations. In 1940 Wilkinson began war work which involved mathematical and numerical work on ballistics. He also worked on the thermodynamics of explosions but asked for a transfer. He became Turing 's assistant at the National Physical Laboratory in London in 1946. At the N.P.L. he worked on the ACE computer project. Hon. Jim WILKINSON MLC Electorate: NELSON (QUEENBOROUGH) Inaugural speech: 28 June 1995 WORKERS REHABILITATION AND COMPENSATION REFORM BILL 1995 Second Reading Mr WILKINSON (Queenborough) - Thank you, Mr President. This is the first time I will be afforded that privilege - and the only time, I suppose. But before I start I would like to thank everybody in this Chamber for the way in which they have accepted me over the past couple of weeks; it really has been appreciated and the help that has been offered has been very much appreciated. I congratulate the President on his elevation to the presidency of this Chamber and I also congratulate those members who have been re-elected and those who have been elected for the first time to the Legislative Council. I would like to place on record my thanks to all those who worked with me and for me during my election campaign and certainly those who gave me their electoral support prior to and on 27 May . Their assistance really was greatly appreciated. I will not stay to get on to any further preamble because we have received a number of briefings on the workers compensation bill over the past couple of days. I think it is worth remembering that the major aim of any workers compensation legislation is for there to be fair compensation for an injured worker but when I say 'fair' that also implies that it should be at a reasonable cost to employers.

Sounds from the North Liekedeler Musikproductionen LIECD 01017 It's not often that a reviewer receives an album from a German label nor one whose goods are accompanied by a catalogue advertising "Original Keltische Accessoires". If you're interested in the latter, such Celtic accessories include a t-shirt depicting sheep participating in a session, a Royal Steward tartan mouse-pad and a selection of appropriate fridge magnets. Personally, I rather fancy a new career reviewing Celtic fridge magnets, so any interested companies out there, please send Mr Stradling samples of your wares. Visitors to this year's concerts can take memories of the evening home with them, and those who buy the CD without having seen the concerts will gain an insight into the project's goal to present traditional music as authentically and intensively as it can be when purely commercial aspects take a back seat. Now, of course, such sentiments are innately laudable, but ultimately depend on the quality of the recording and whether or not it is a fair reflection of the musicians' abilities. Sadly, in this case, on the day of the recording in Monea, near Enniskillen, Desi Wilkinson had a cold whose rheumy effects mar his two songs on the album
