  • 82. Michael Shanks - From Door To Door - Shanksadelic!
william H. Macy CAST william H. Macy (Bill Porter) Kyra Sedgwick (Shelly Brady)Helen Mirren (Mrs. Porter) Kathy Baker (Gladys) Michael shanks (Mr. Brady).
    http://www.shanksadelic.net/door.html
    WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
"Door to Door" is based on a true story, the one of Bill Porter. He was born with cerebral palsy, and got through life as a door-to-door salesman (hence the title).
The fate of Bill Porter is indeed an inspiring one. Not because he made a great invention or was a famous artist, but simply because he never gave up. An ordinary heroe - the most admireable kind of heroes we have.
Thanks to the support of his mum and his own will he proved all those wrong who told him he'd never be able to get a job and make a living. He did - for more than 40 years, Porter made a daily 10 miles, selling products of The Watkins Company. A daily torture, considering is disability. He finally became one of the top salesmen.
Porter touched the life and hearts of many people, being an inspiration for millions. And William H. Macy is the perfect actor to play this part. Kyra Sedgwick, wife of actor Kevin Bacon, is Shelly Brady, his assistant.
The real Bill Porter is still working for the same company - alas today he's selling over the phone or internet. Michael Shanks can be seen as Mr. Brady, the husband of Kyra Sedgwick's character. The real Shelly Brady and her hubs had 6 kids, by the way.

    BROWN TOWNSHIP
from the 1909 History of Miami County Ohio
    by Thomas Harbaugh
The first settlement in Brown Township was made in 1806 by John Kiser, who was a Virginian. At first he located in the vicinity of Dayton, but leaving his first habitation after a brief sojourn, he moved northward till he entered the forests of Brown Township, where he concluded to build his cabin. His industry enabled him to clear some ground, upon which he put his first crops, and in course of time became one of the foremost farmers of the county. Isaac Kiser, son of this first settler, was the first white child born in Brown Township, and he first saw the light where the village of Fletcher now stands. The Kisers were well calculated to become the first settlers of a county. They came of a hardy stock of people and were men whom no trials could balk and to them Brown Township today owes much of it's prosperity. In 1807 John Simmons arrived from Pennsylvania and joined the little colony. He came with ten children to swell scanty population. He built the first double-roomed cabin in the township and for a long time the structure was an object of curiosity among the neighbors. What was more, a porch extended the length of this wonderful house and during the summer the Simmons family dined thereon. Simmons had real glass windows, and this excited the envy of the less fortunate neighbors. His squeaking doors had wooden hinges and wooden catches. These catches were raised from the outside by means of a string and when the family were ready to retire at night they pulled the string inside and considered themselves secure. Of course there was no patent on the Simmons "safety lock."

WAREHAM William Latimer "Lat" Gray Jr., 66, formerly of Boston and Westwood, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999. He fell from his truck on Sept. 17 while unloading branches from the Sept. 16 storm and suffered a spinal cord injury.
He was the husband of Judith (White) Gray.
Mr. Gray spent his entire career at Bank Boston; he retired in 1989 as a senior vice president. He served in the Army in Germany from 1955-58.
Sailing was his passion since childhood; cruising with his family as a child, he developed a great interest in small-boat racing.
In 1960, he and his brother Sam purchased their first sloop, Clarion. They continued to cruise and race together since then. They raced the present Clarion four times in the Marion-Burmuda race and twice in the double-handled Newport-Bermuda race.
In 1991, they took Clarion trans-Atlantic sailing from Ireland to the Canary Islands, enjoying the coasts of England, Spain, Portugal and Madeira, then crossed to the Caribbean, cruising as far north as the Bahamas. The past several winters were spent cruising with his wife in their powerboat Kingpin. Summers, for many years, were spent sailing the Maine coast.
He was a member of the Cruising Club of America, Ocean Cruising Club and Beverly Yacht Club in Marion.
