Chernobyl: Assessment of Radiological and Health Impact
2002 Update of Chernobyl: Ten Years On
The international radiological protection community performed a major status review of the situation around the damaged Chernobyl reactor on the 10-year anniversary of the accident. Since then, studies of the accident site and the contaminated territories continue to be undertaken, which have yielded new scientific results and highlighted important social and health aspects. This report is a complete update of the NEA's earlier publication, Chernobyl: Ten Years On. In particular, it offers the reader the most recent information on the significant new experience gained in the areas of emergency management, long-term environmental behaviour of radioactive materials and health effects.

IonActive Consulting IonActive Consulting has been set up by Mark Ramsay, a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), certificated by RPA2000. We offer RPA advice to the small user which could include Universities, Colleges, Museums, Industry, Medical Practices and Schools. Mark Ramsay has experience in the nuclear industry and small user sector and appreciates the difficulties the small user may face when considering budgets, priorities, resources and training.
IonActive Consulting recognises that the small user may experience difficulties in complying with regulations, dealing with regulators, looking for suitable disposal routes, selecting equipment or perhaps writing local rules. The RPA service ensures these issues are resolved efficiently to client and regulator satisfaction, within the finite resources of the client.

Pituitary Tutorial: top page
In this tutorial, we will give an overview of lesions appearing in and around the pituitary gland, then move onto tumors intrinsic to the pituitary gland, delineating the two major ways that these tumors present. We will then focus on common pituitary tumors, giving the clinical presentation, laboratory and radiological workup, and treatment options for each. Controversies in treatment will be identified. We will divide the discussion of the pituitary into several sections:
  • Anatomy and imaging of the pituitary gland .. and its surrounding structures (hint: the pituitary lives in a high-priced neighborhood...)
  • physiology of the pituitary gland the briefest of overviews with references
  • clinical presentation syndromes of pituitary tumors

Dedicated to the Early Detection and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer and Osteoporosis
Midwest Breast Care Center is a unique radiological imaging facility dedicated to women’s health. We specialize in early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer and osteoporosis. Midwest Breast, owned by Central Radiology Group (CRG), is a freestanding, independent, outpatient imaging center that offers mammography, breast ultrasound, bone density testing and high levels of breast care and osteoporosis education. Our Center (MWBCC) opened in 1988, and Central Radiology Group, composed of board-certified radiologists, began providing services in 1990. Today, we welcome approximately 11,000 women a year and perform more than 13,000 procedures annually. Our radiologists and technologists have strong expertise in mammography and related diagnostic services. Diagnostic modalities include: specialized imaging techniques; extra views (especially helpful for women with breast implants); and breast ultrasound (used to determine if a lump is a fluid-filled cyst or a solid mass). Our Radiologists also perform needle biopsies, cyst aspirations, ductograms and needle localization, prior to surgical biopsy as needed. In 1996, we began to offer bone density testing for the early detection of osteoporosis. The added convenience of a “one-stop shop" – the ability to have both their mammogram and bone density test done at one time – was instantly recognized and appreciated by patients.

Three-Year Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science Radiologic science is an academic discipline that forms the foundation for the medical specialties of diagnostic radiology, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, and medical sonography. These medical specialties use ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Theoretical and technical advances within the field of radiologic science have allowed the development of new diagnostic modalities that enable physicians to examine virtually any part of the human body. Advances in this field have also increased the effectiveness of the radiation treatment of certain diseases, particularly cancers. The three-year Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science program offers majors in Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMT), Radiation Therapy (RT), and Radiography (RAD). The curriculum of the Bachelor of Science program integrates didactic instruction in the liberal arts, basic and applied science, and the social sciences with clinical instruction provided by the clinical affiliates. The location of the College in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area, as well as its affiliations with the neighboring medical institutions, enable students to train in hospitals with state-of-the-art facilities that are among the best in the world.
