The Boston University Center of Philosophy and History of Science began as an informal inter-university collaboration of colleagues in philosophy, the natural and social sciences, history, psychology, religious studies, and the arts, to stimulate exchange concerning all aspects of the philosophy and history of science, mathematics, and logic. The Center seeks to examine, in the broadest humanistic and social context, the factors that govern the theory and practice of science. The Center is devoted to research, academic programs, special conferences of scholars, public education, and publication in the philosophy and history of sciences.
The Boston Colloquium for Philosophy of Science offers frequent public lectures that reflect the Center's multifaceted agenda, namely an eclectic program that attempts to foster interdisciplinary and international scholarly dialogue concerning the historical and contemporary development of science, its conceptual foundations, and its cultural context.

Science Fiction in Film and Television: A Bibliography of Resources in Print
    Introduction and Statement of Scope
Science Fiction film and television studies is a relatively new field. It was not until the late 1960s and 1970s that scholars began to take SF as a genre seriously. Many critics and scholars in both the science fiction and cinema fields have suggested that there exists an elitism in the film genre that denigrates SF films as frivolous entertainment. Regardless of such opinions, SF films serve as a vehicle for expressing society's concerns and fears. SF films have been used to express concerns about war, foreign invasion, the environment, the future, and the effects of technology, to name a few.
This resource guide began as a project for one of my reference courses, Information in the Humanities. It is intended for use by persons interested in the evolution of SF as a means of expressing society's concerns. This bibliography includes introductory materials such as indexes, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, and guides; works chronicling the history of SF in film and television, and works of criticism. I have excluded novels adapted from films but have included lists of both films and television programs that I feel are representative of important themes and concepts.
