below) must complete prelicensing education at an approved school prior to sitting for an examination. A listing of approved schools is available on this web site. The prelicensing education is not a preparatory course for passing the examination. The intent is to provide a broad overview of insurance concepts, state laws, and ethics. The course content provided by approved schools will include eight hours of study of the Principles of Insurance, General Wisconsin Insurance Laws, and Ethics. Once this eight hours is completed, it need not be repeated for each line. Twelve hours regarding Policies, Terms and Concepts, and line-specific insurance law must be completed for each major line. Therefore, a candidate applying for all four major lines would be required to complete a total of 56 hours of education prior to testing. Upon successful completion of the education requirement, you will receive a Certificate of Prelicensing Education. This original document will be required at the test site as part of the application process. Candidate Handbooks, which include "Expro" exam and reservation information, are available from the schools as part of their instructional materials. Information in the Handbook will outline Wisconsin's electronic testing procedure. This system allows you to register with the testing service by telephone up to 72 hours in advance of an exam. The exam fees are $50 for one line, $85 for two, and are payable at the test site. The Candidate Handbook is also available on

Mathematics Department Website ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Mathematics and Computer Science Department offers a liberal arts major, leading to a bachelor of science or bachelor of arts in mathematics from the College of Letters and Sciences, or a teaching major, leading to a bachelor of science in education from the College of Education. The liberal arts degree requires 35 credits in mathematics and 15 elective credits selected from a concentration in the student's area of interest. Popular options are algebra, analysis and statistics. Many students also show interest in actuarial science. By selecting courses in statistics, analysis, computer science and actuarial mathematics, students are well prepared to take several beginning actuarial examinations before graduation. The teaching major requires 36 credits and six elective credits in mathematics to strengthen a particular area of interest. Both degree choices provide students with a strong background for advanced study at the graduate level. Each program offers students a basic core of ideas which serve as the basis for study in a specialized area of mathematics.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Mathematics majors have a wide variety of courses to choose from to design a program of study that meets their particular career paths. Careers may be found in the following areas:

How Do I Know What God Is Calling Me To Do?
By Fr. Warren Sazama, SJ
Vocations Director Note: This article originally appeared in Callings , our Province vocations newsletter. "How do I know what God is calling me to?" While there's no easy answer, if we do our part, God does eventually reveal His will to us. St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, assumed that God works directly in the human soul and communicates with us through our "interior movements," including our thoughts, feelings, and desires. He observed, however, that not all of our inner movements are from God. Some are from negative sources he personifies as the "evil spirit" or the "enemy of our human nature." They can include simple procrastination, pride, fear, greed, or a giving-in to the negative values of our secular culture. Ignatius instructs us to first get our priorities in order by keeping clearly in mind that we are above all created to praise, reverence, and serve God and God's people, thereby saving our souls. In using our God-given gifts to serve others we give praise to God and express our love of Christ. We are all called in this general way. To find our particular calling we listen for God's voice in the interior of our hearts. To hear God we must pay attention to our inner desires, longings, and aspirations. To do this, we need to pray really pray. Not utter prayers by rote or pray on the go, but daily set aside quality time to become calm, put ourselves in God's presence, and listen to our hearts.

Types of aid available
Listed below is information regarding the various types of aid available to students attending institutions of higher learning in Wisconsin. These forms of aid are available according to the particular characteristics of the various schools (some of these programs are limited to schools that are in a particular category or have specific programs). You will be able to get specific information about exactly what programs are available at a given school by reviewing the school's catalog or inquiring at the financial aid office. This list provides a good general overview of all major programs. The list excludes information on programs that are tied to specific curriculum (such as nursing or health professions) or to specific schools (such as institutional scholarships) direct contact with the school of your choice is your best bet for learning about these forms of assistance. Grants and Waivers: This "gift" assistance does not have to be repaid (unless the student withdraws or reduces credit load). FEDERAL PELL GRANT: Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education. The specific award amount depends upon credit load, residency, and whether the student lives on or off campus or with parents. If any of these factors change, an award adjustment may be necessary. The student receives a Student Aid Report (SAR) after applying (sent to the student directly from the U.S. Department of Education). The SAR can be used to make corrections to erronious data the corrected form can either be sent directly to the Federal Student Aid Program processor (address on form) or turned in to the financial fid office, where the student can be advised on the best method to use in making a correction. This grant is only for undergraduate students.
