From Prentice Hall and Pearson Education comes the online Conceptual Physics Tutorial. The site provides information for students on mechanics, properties of matter, heat, sound and light, electricity and magnetism, and atomic and nuclear physics. Each chapter contains subheadings and various described links to sites that focus on that particular subject. Under momentum, for example, more than a dozen sites are included under subheadings such as impulse changes, bouncing, conservation of momentum, collisions, and momentum vectors. Other highlights of the site include links to simulations found on the Web and questions of the week, along with their answer. Even though some of the provided links were dead, the repository of information should prove useful to visitors. [JAB]

This on-line book provides examples of a few simple activities we can do with our children. It is an introduction to the wealth of material in many other books available in libraries and bookstores. Bad Science abounds and comes in many guises. This page sets out to attack only one brand: well understood phenomena which are persistently presented incorrectly by teachers and writers, presumably because they either do not know any better or because they don't really care enough to get it correct.

Vision Statement
The Council for Basic Education believes that a healthy democracy depends on excellence in PK-12 public education for all children, and that excellence can be achieved best through a well-taught, standards-based curriculum in the liberal arts.
The Council for Basic Education (CBE), a national non-profit organization, advocates high academic standards for all students and exemplary teaching in every classroom in our nation’s public schools. CBE was founded in 1956 by a group of concerned citizens who were convinced that there is a close relationship between a healthy democracy and excellence in public education and were dismayed at the academic deficiencies in the nation's elementary and secondary schools. Throughout its history, CBE has directed its programs and publications to strengthen teaching and learning of the liberal arts to prepare students for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship. CBE has earned a reputation as an impartial critic of education reform, and its

The Programme in International Human Rights Law has been developed by the University of Oxford Department for Continuing Education and the George Washington University Law School. The aims of the Programme are to develop participants' advocacy and dissemination skills, as well as their formal knowledge of human rights law and the means for its enforcement. More broadly, the Programme is intended to prepare students to contribute to the improvement of human rights conditions in their homelands and around the world. For the 2003 session, the Programme has assembled an internationally recognised faculty offering courses on the philosophy, history, doctrine and practice of international human rights law. In addition to the introductory course on the fundamentals of international human rights law, the Programme offers an advanced seminar on human rights lawyering and afternoon electives that address important contemporary issues in the field. These include seminars on the human rights of women, minorities and indigenous peoples, the international criminal process and human rights advocacy and dissemination. Most instruction is conducted in small groups relying on case-based materials and simulations, allowing ample opportunity for exchange with faculty and development of professional skills.
