TEACH ENGLISH IN THE EVEREST REGION Volunteer Nepal Himalaya offers participants a unique opportunity to teach English in a village school in the Himalayas and live as a family member in a local home-stay. Initially, we will spend two days in Kathmandu for lectures about health, religion, government, and Nepali culture. We then fly to Phaplu for seven days of intensive Nepali language training and teacher training. Finally, participants are placed with local families and schools as we walk from Phaplu to Monjo. Where will I live? Each volunteer lives with a local family as a member of the household. The families have received training on how to accommodate guests; families provide three meals a day and have boiled water available for drinking. The meals consist of traditional food such as dal bhat, noodle and rice dishes, Nepali pancakes, Sherpa stew, and a variety of other combinations. You will be eating what the family eats and most of the vegetables are even grown locally. All of the home-stays are in small villages, many of which are on or near the trekking route to Mt. Everest. Many of the families are Sherpas, having immigrated to Nepal from Tibet in the 16

Teach English in Ecuador
Paid in the Cities, Volunteer Elsewhere
By Philippe Leduc When I arrived in Quito in January, I walked into the South American Spanish Institute to find out about English teaching possibilities. Within 90 minutes, I had taken a grammar test and the director of the Institute had offered me a job. I started the following Monday. Requirements and Pay. Few institutes require any teaching qualifications, but some give priority to TEFL or TESL (or other) certificate holders and pay these teachers a little more. Colegios (high schools, not listed in the sidebar, except for Academia Cotopaxi) require either teaching qualifications and/or experience. The only institute that does not hire inexperienced applicants is the British Council, which requires two years of teaching experience. A few other institutes, such as the Experiment and Lingua Franca, pay qualified teachers more than their non-qualified ones. For those without teaching qualifications, knowledge of English is usually assessed with a grammar test. The average hourly wage is 15,000 sucres ($3). This is good by Ecuadorian standardsa cook, waiter, or cleaning person earns 50 cents per hour. However, qualified teachers can find jobs paying between 25,000 and 50,000 sucres ($5-$10). Some institutions deduct 8 percent in taxes, as required by Ecuadorian law.

8. Thailand Teaching Internship
There, you will continue your Thai language lessons and teacher trainingas well as volunteer teach at a nearby refugee center or temple.
http://www.globalroutes.org/college/college_thailand.html
The Global Routes Teaching Internship Program in Thailand was developed in conjunction with our Thai staff members who have backgrounds in volunteer service throughout the northern part of the country. As an intern, you will live with a family in a Thai village, teach English in a local elementary school and participate in other community-based service projects of your own design. You needn't have a background in teaching, the Thai language or have traveled through Southeast Asia. You will receive training and support from Thai and American staff throughout your program. Register Now!
Orientation and Teacher Training (the first two weeks)
The Teaching Placement (2 months)
Orientation complete, your group travels to your villages, about 40km south-east of Chiang Mai. There you will live with a Thai family and teach English in a local elementary school for the next 7- 8 weeks. You will spend your first week observing and assessing classes, and with the support of co-interns, Thai teachers and the Global Routes in-country director, develop appropriate goals and lesson plans. During the teaching placement, interns live with separate families within walking or biking distance from one another, their director and their schools. Living with a family in rural Thailand means giving up some of the conveniences to which you might be accustomed, such as running hot water, familiar foods or privacy. It is a unique opportunity to become more deeply immersed in Thai culture. At times your family stay will be stressful and frustrating, at others you will make profound cross-cultural discoveries.

MENU: HOME Reconstruction Recovery Renewal ... Language Main Page VOLUNTEER TEACHERS The World Language Process presently has requests for hundreds of teachers to teach English. Many of these requests are from Governors of Provinces in Thailand, but there are many requests from other places in the world including from the State of Florida for teaching English to Spanish speaking prisoners. Unfortunately, while the positions just mentioned provide room and board for the volunteers and have no cost to the volunteers, except transportation, they do require the availability of the World Language Process ACCESS System which, because of economies of scale, we cannot implement until we have requests for thousands of teachers. While in the past we maintained a registry of teacher volunteers we discontinued doing so because we found that obtaining volunteers was not going to be a problem since there are many university students and retired people willing to volunteer. The problem is that we need requests for THOUSANDS of teachers so that we can implement the ACCESS System. For this, our present hope is that the Government of China will want to use many thousands of volunteers to teach English for the upcoming Olympics in China.
