General Information Select All School name Area of expertise Case studies Resources Education Authority Keyword search GUIDANCE FOR BEACON SCHOOLS RENEWAL OF BEACON STATUS AFTER THREE YEARS Introduction Beacon status is granted to schools for three years initially and Beacon schools that are able to provide evidence of success as a Beacon are eligible for an extension of their status. By taking positions of leadership, Beacon schools work in partnership with other schools so that their particular areas of expertise can be shared and passed on and others can be helped to reach the same high standards as themselves. The Beacon school programme is an important strand of the Government’s drive to achieve excellence through diversity. This is reflected in the wide range of activities and different approaches to dissemination that schools have undertaken. Given that the programme has been designed to raise standards through the spreading of good practice, the main requirement for schools wishing to renew their Beacon status will be the provision of evidence of the impact that they have had in partner schools as a result of Beacon activity.
