Read This First To the teacher, Greetings! What follows is a collection of directions that I give all of my students whenever we do a full-length play. Each student is assigned a "tech job." This may include make up, music director, etc. Each student is graded on both their dramatic role and their tech job.
I do not claim that my material is all original. I got it from many sources and organized and added to it to fit my program. The last play we did was Alice in Wonderland. It had about 200 people associated with it in some way. Without a clear delineation of the student's tech jobs, the production would have been much more difficult. I require that all students present a report of their progress to the Assistant Director (another tech job) at two dates during the rehearsal process. Feel free to use this material for all non-commercial use. If you do use it, please email me and let me know how everything went with your production.

The "Producing Edgar Allen Poe" Challenge
By Ellen Moore and Christopher Moore
    Grade Level:
    Overview

This lesson invites students into the macabre world of Edgar Allen Poe through theatrical exploration of the text of THE TELL-TALE HEART. Students will create and perform excerpts from their specific "productions" of this Poe classic. Objectives Students will:
    • Develop an awareness of elements that contribute to the production and performance of a play. These elements include: writing, staging, casting actors, music and more.
    • Encourage students to make specific creative choices and defend those choices.
    • Explore the richness of Edgar Allen Poe's writing by investigating The Tell-Tale Heart in an unconventional way.
Estimated Time 40 minutes-could be extended into two forty-minute sessions. Necessary Materials
    • Paper and Pens
    • Copies of the text THE TELL-TALE HEART by Edgar Allen Poe
    • Art supplies (optional)
    • CD player (optional)
Teaching Procedure Step One: Have class read the story THE TELL-TALE HEART by Edgar Allen Poe. This can be done the night before, or in class as the story is short. This lesson plan assumes the students have read through the short story once. If they read it in class, adjust time accordingly.

Advocating the Art of Theatre in the State of Illinois...
It is the mission of the Illinois Theatre Association to advocate for theatre in Illinois. The ITA is made up of six divisions, each of which focuses on a particular area of theatre involvement (Children's Theatre, Creative Drama, Community Theatre, Professional, Secondary School, University/College), reflecting the interests of the public, and which is represented in a national organization with the same focus. The Association seeks to fulfill its mission through providing festivals, workshops, conferences, seminars, and special projects produced by each division annually.

I have to admit that most of my lessons are stuck in my head. It's the current show and the tech work that needs to get done that dictates what we do in the class. As you all know, with each show, the needs change.
That's not to say that I don't have my info written down. Just take a look at the how-to pages. There they are, just not in "lesson plan" form. Okay, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best when it comes to writing skill. That's ok! Everyone has their strengths. So, What I'd like to do is create the
