Funding Vocational Education in Ohio: Results of a National Survey of State Practices This paper reviews factors that can contribute to higher costs for vocational instruction and identifies characteristics of vocational delivery in Ohio that may affect vocational provision. The report also summarizes results of the 50-state survey commissioned by Ohio. State strategies for funding vocational education are presented, with emphasis placed on contrasting funding patterns across states and with respect to Ohio. Finally, it distills findings from the national survey to identify funding practices that may help inform policy development in Ohio.

Photo not available. Immediately after graduation, Mr. Senter was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for two and one-half years. After his discharge from military service, he was hired to teach Vocational Agriculture at Haynes High School, where he began a truly outstanding career which spanned a period of forty-two years. Among Mr. Senter's awards and achievements are: President of the Tennessee Vocational Agriculture Association; Outstanding Educator Most Exemplifying Brotherhood; and Appointee to the Joint State Staff for Vocational Agriculture Board. He served on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee FFA Foundation and was one of four founders of the Education Council, the forerunner of the Metropolitan Nashville Education Association. His most recent award was the prestigious H. O. Sargent Award. This award, given at the National FFA meeting, recognized Mr. Senter's success in achieving and promoting diversity in agricultural education in the Future Farmers of America. Mr. Senter also devoted much time to community activities, including serving as solicitor of funds for Vanderbilt University's Children's Hospital and Meharry's Sickle Cell Anemia Program.

Middle Tennessee Oral History Project The Middle Tennessee Oral History Project seeks to record the memories of people who live in or have roots in the region. Topics of particular interests include Middle Tennessee State University, African-American community leadership in Murfreesboro, veterans, state and local politics, women's organizations, farming and farm organizations, planning and economic development, and medical history. http://www.wcschools.com The Wilson County School System serves approximately 12,000 students in kindergarten through adult education. Eight elementary schools, three elementary/junior high schools, one junior high school, one junior/senior high school, two high schools, one vocational center, one adult high school, and an adult basic education program make up the 18 sites. The Wilson County School System is committed to excel in all areas of education. The system strives to obtain the best teachers and administrators possible. Of the 786 people employed in positions that require state certification, 351 or approximately 44 percent, have attained an educational degree at the Masters level or higher. Twenty-two percent (22%) have achieved career ladder status of two or three. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredit all schools. The administration of Wilson County Schools lowered pupil-teacher ratios, increased the number of teaching assistants, increased the number of counselors and added school nurses as a way of providing better service to the students of Wilson County.
