Open Space Institutes Around the World
The Open Space Institutes have been created in various geographic locations by facilitators of Open Space Technology who were interested in promoting Open Space Technology, creating learning communities about Open Space Technology as it evolves and grows, and to support trained facilitators of Open Space Technology through mentoring and coaching. The institutes are networks of people. The coaching and mentoring is not charged for, but a volunteer service of support. World Wide Open Space Institute

The 3rd Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum
Discussion of Future International Cooperation in Space Development (No.47 1996 MAY) The 3rd Asia-Pacific Region Space Agency Forum(APRSAF-3) was held on March 13 and 14 at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo. The meeting, organized by the Science and Technology Agency of Japan(STA), the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), and the National Space Development Agency of Japan(NASDA), was attended by a total of 60 persons, including 24 participants from 17 countries and 2 international organizations, together with observers from related foreign embassies and space institutes.
APRSAF began with the International Space Year(ISY) of 1992, when an ISY related meeting of Asia-Pacific countries in Tokyo adopted a resolution to hold an annual meeting for all space organizations in the Asia-Pacific region.
The annual meeting is intended to permit regional space policy makers and analysts to exchange opinions and information on further space utilization and multinational cooperation.
The first day of APRSAF-3 began with introductory speeches by Mr. Mamiya, Deputy Director-General of STA, and Mr. Matsui, President of NASDA.

Showing that Science can be Fun and Interesting
While space institutes from various countries, including NASDA, analyze Satellite images,
the objective of the glass root Earth Watch is to follow up the clues in satellite images
and find the actual spots for fun. For this issue,
we interviewed an advocator of Earth Watch, Shigeo Fukuda.
Interviewer: I have to admit that I am not familiar with the term Earth Watch. Could you briefly explain what the organization does?
Interviewer: What has been the response to this program? Are you seeing an increase in the number of participants?
Editor's Note
Fukuda has also written Pasokonde tanoshimu Earth Watch (Enjoying Earth Watch on your PC; Japan Broadcast Publishing Co.) and others, which have been used as reference books by university professors. Articles on Earth Watch have also been printed in journals aimed at adults, such as SCIaS (Asahi Shimbun), generating a steady increase in the number of Earth Watchers. The Japanese and South Korean space institutes have reached a basic agreement to promote cooperation in space, according to a report to a panel meeting on space development Wednesday. The National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) are scheduled to exchange documents agreeing to the cooperation Friday. NASDA and KARI will set up a team comprised of experts from the two countries to deliberate the cooperation, according to the report. Such cooperation includes basic training for South Korean astronauts. More Stories

NASDA and KARI will finalize the details of the cooperation before the start of the World Cup soccer finals in late May, which are to be co-hosted by the two countries. The idea to promote cooperation between the two sides emerged after Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata and KARI officials held meetings during Wakata's visit to South Korea in August last year.
