Disabled Hunting Park's Present ... Hours
Chiseled out of the state’s far northern region is Rock Cut State Park in Winnebego County. Nearby are other "rocky" landmarks - the mighty Rock River and the place where wagons once forded it, Rockford. It’s an area of rolling plains, interesting history and recreational variety. Hours Summer hours (April - October) 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Winter hours (November - March) 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The Park's Present
Trails
The trail system at Rock Cut offers opportunities for hiking (40 miles), mountain biking(23 miles), and equestrian(14 miles) and has been completely remarked beginning in 2003. Trail users will find updated trail head/information signs at picnic areas and trail access points for trail information and regulations. Only certain trails are designated for mountain biking and equestrian use and are identified by colored trail markers. Blue trails are for mountain biking and hiking, yellow trails are for equestrian and hiking and red trails are restricted to hiking only.
Trail activities have been divided into "summer and winter" seasons to provide quality seasonal programs. The "summer program" (mountain biking and equestrian) trails are open April 15 - November 30. These regulations for mountain biking and equestrian use will be strictly enforced and violators are subject to fines.

Pediatrics Volume 106, Number 5 November 2000, pp 1142-1144 Snowmobiling Hazards (RE0006) AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS Committee on Injury and Poison Prevention ABBREVIATIONS. NEISS, National Electronic Injury Surveillance System; CPSC, US Consumer Product Safety Commission; AAP, American Academy of Pediatrics. The popularity of snowmobiles in the snowbelt has increased along with their size and speed. The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that there has been no decline in snowmobile injuries during the past 10 years. The average annual number of snowmobile injuries treated in emergency departments in 1997 and 1998 was more than 10 000. Of these injuries, 10% occurred in children younger than 15 years, and another 25% occurred in adolescents and young adults 15 through 24 years of age. Between January 1992 and December 1997, the Death Certificate Data Files of the CPSC recorded 51 deaths in children younger than 16 years that were directly attributable to snowmobiles. This number is almost certainly an undercount. The CPSC does not routinely acquire death certificates involving collisions with licensed motor vehicles. For both the number of reported deaths and injuries, males were 3 times more likely than females to be the victims. Head injuries were the leading cause of injury and death.

Who is the CIHI? It is an independent, pan-Canadian, not-for-profit organization working to improve the health of Canadians and the health care system by providing quality health information. The CIHI is responsible for providing accurate and timely information that is needed to establish sound health policies, manage the Canadian health system effectively and create public awareness of factors affecting good health.
Wow, this is a lofty mandate for what amounts to a taxpayer funded advisory board. Unfortunately, it would appear that the CIHI or someone at the CIHI has an axe to grind with snowmobilers. By sensationalizing the dangers of snowmobiling, the CIHI has made the entire industry and all snowmobilers look like reckless fools.
What exactly did the CIHI report find? For one thing, there is a 16.7 per cent greater chance that you will suffer a severe injury falling down your stairs or taking your dog for a walk than if you are involved in any sports or recreational activities. Snowmobiling makes up 16 per cent of all sports or recreational activity injuries.

    Serious and catastrophic sport/recreational injuries
The Recreation Research Communique is designed to disseminate information obtained from studies and analyses conducted or funded recently by the Recreation Policy Branch. As part of its sport safety initiative, the Ministry funded a study to gather information on serious and catastrophic (fatal or permanently disabling) sport/recreational injuries incurred in Ontario. A report on a survey that obtained such injury data between 1 July 1991 and 30 June 1992 has recently been received. The study was conducted by SportSmart Canada.
    Results
A total of 561 cases of serious or catastrophic recreational injuries were reported during the study period; 220 of these cases were fatalities. Numbers of cases and fatalities for specific activities are provided in Table 1, in the adjacent column. As can be seen from the table, four activities snowmobiling, bicycling, boating (including fishing from a boat) and swimming dominate the statistics, constituting 52% of all cases and 73% of the fatalities. In the case of boating, power boats were cited in 25 of the 38 cases in which the type of boat was distinguished; canoes were cited in 11 cases and sailboats in two cases.
