Developed by David Wake, curator of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California at Berkeley, with the help of several graduate students, the database contains accounts of 137 species and eventually will provide information "for every species of amphibian in the world." Species accounts include descriptions, photos, life history, conservation status and references. The site offers a section on worldwide amphibian decline and information on how to contribute information to the database.

Just Who Are You Anyway? Developing a USP
by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson, E-Commerce Consultant Web Marketing Today , March 1, 2000 To succeed in the heavily populated world of Internet businesses, you need to know exactly what your business is, and what differentiates it from all other online businesses. You need to develop a Unique Selling Proposition, a USP. When I go to e-commerce trade shows, if I had a nickel for every time I see the phrase "e-commerce solutions," I'd be a rich man. So you have a solution. A solution to what? If 20 other companies offer an "e-commerce solution," why should I do business with YOUR firm? Unless you have a ready answer to that question, your days in business are numbered. You've GOT to know what makes you different, better, or more capable than your competition.
    Amphibious Case Study
Just for fun, we're going to develop a USP for a new dot.com start-up. Let's say you've looked deep into yourself for your areas of expertise. And all you can find is that you love amphibians. Ever since you were a kid you've taken in frogs and toads as pets. You developed the first Salamandaria in your local town zoo. You have nearly every book ever published on amphibians, and you subscribe to the scientific journals that carry amphibian research. You love amphibians!

Reptile and Amphibian Taxon Advisory Groups
Many Australian and New Zealand zoos exhibit reptiles and an increasing number are exhibiting amphibians. Keeping tabs on captive breeding and the placement of specimens is difficult without some form of coordinated approach. The Joint Taxon Advisory Groups for Reptiles and Amphibians (TAGs) coordinate the management of herpetofauna, both native and exotic, within Australasian zoos. Specialised management is given to endangered species and other high value taxa, refered to as Priority Taxa with each having its own Coordinator. The TAGs are made up of professional zookeepers although some professional herpetologists are involved; current membership is around 30 representing some 26 major or private zoos. The principal objectives of the TAGs are:
    • To support and encourage the development of a regional collection, comprising individual collections. Co-operative and on-going maintenance and relevant breeding of rare, threatened or poorly known taxa. To maximise the conservation potential of Australasian zoos.
