Sat Jul 13 2002 18:44:14 I am attempting to put together a "manual" for our ladies group and am having trouble finding information on the etiquette at gatherings such as court. Can anyone suggest any reading material? Also am looking for ANY and all links to the Midieval Woman. Thanks!! dyliss Sat Jul 13 2002 18:46:56 By the way, I am from Phoenix, Arizona. I notice most of the posts in here are from the U.K. Therefore, fore anyone hoping to help me with my research, you may want to send me an airline ticket so me search will be more accurate! haha...thanks! Mark Griffin Wed Jul 17 2002 22:25:06 firstly, the rude sarcastic bit:
Women should be seen and not heard, do whatever your nice husband tells you!
The helpful bit.
There are many courtesy books and manuals but they do not contain lots of info for women. There is the Babees Book and Russel's Book of Nurture but most people I know who have looked into this have done it from inferences in more informal sources such as the various letter collections of the Pastons, Stonors and Plumptons etc.
You may well want to contact Soper Lane, the UK grouop who specialise in 15th century silk women, you can get them through Gina Barret at www.et-tu.com/soper-lane/, they are a very helpful bunch.

    Inquiry 101SC
    Fall 2001
    Dr. Bryan Rennie
The major questions for Inquiry I are:
  • How do we know? What is the nature of humanity?
  • The major Questions for Inquiry II will be:
  • What is the good, and how do we attain it? What should we make our ultimate concern?
  • Webpage Project Description Requirements Schedule ... Grading

Click on the “Back” button at the top left to return to this index. Course Description Inquiry I is the first course in the two semester sequence of the First Year Program. The central subjects of the first semester's course are knowledge and human nature. Especially the relation of knowledge to authority, and its varied ways of arising. The course readings and strategies engage students in learning as they think through the major questions and ideas. Some kind of “Ariadne's thread” is needed to connect the various themes within the topics of “Knowledge and Authority” and the questions “How do we know?” and “What is the nature of Humanity?” Inquiry 101 SC will take up the thread of Intellectual Growth and Development, and briefly inspect the development and growth of human knowledge through known history. Humanity can be characterized as being composed of communities of intelligent agents that know by means of our communal ability to represent. Human individuals grow and develop within such communities. Therefore a historical study of the development of human knowledge will be pursued. Once a week the instructor will introduce examples of major ideas that shaped this development. Many, if not all, of these developments were vigorously resisted for a wide variety of reasons when they first arose, but communities of the competent always won the day. Where readings are not already in the Inquiry Reader, appropriate lectures will be given .

I worked for 13 years in the Scouting program and ran a day-care in my home for 6 years. During this time I was actively involved in community events, particularly the Midsummer Rennaissance Faire where I was "discovered" telling stories and invited to become a member of the Utah Shakespearean Festival Greenshow cast. I have been the storyteller for the USF Greenshow for 14 years. This has led to membership in the National Storytelling Association, appearances at Storytelling Festivals throughout the west and even a 3-day stint at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas! The Web Stalker (http://www.backspace.org/iod) is a Web browser but rather than attempting to
seamlessly integrate all the Web's resources into one multi-media
experience it deliberately dissects web sites. It begins as a blank
page. You then draw up to six boxes and assign one of six functions to
them. These are crawler (connects to web-sites), map (maps links between
html documents in a site as lines to circles, the more links a circle
has the brighter it is), dismantle (maps the links between different
elements-text, sound, picture, etc.-of a specific html document, also in
lines and circles), stash (a way of saving urls), HTML stream (shows all the html language as the crawler window reads it), and extract (shows all the text from an url). You can have six different windows of different sizes (your choice) all dissecting and mapping the particular web-site you have chosen. By clicking on the circles produced in map or dismantle you can navigate around the web-site. The Web Stalker provides a means of exploring the structure of any web-site. For the past two nights I hung out with some some people I don't normally hang out with, along with people I do normally hang out with. It's really fun to be with new people and people I don't know. Hanging with Chris Jurg is fun, he's just hilarious and really nice. I also got to know Kat A. a little, she's really nice, and has way too much energy. Off the damn walls. Hanging out with Mona and Alyson has been fun too, I haven't really seen them in a while. On top of it, I got to hang out with my standard ring of friends, so that just made it an excellent mix. I'm beginning to get that feeling in my heart again. No... not a blood clot. I can actually feel like the center of my chest, or maybe it's just my stomach, gets pulled a little bit when I think about her sometimes. And I love the feeling. Saturday, Jan. 18th, 2003 12.15 am
Not too much has been going on lately. I feel like I'm basically spending time between now and when I go to college, which I greatly look forward to. I can't wait to get away from home, and I have no doubt that I will absolutely love being away from home. I'm an absolute bastard to my parents. Granted, I'm a bastard with many people, I just never agree with my parents on anything, ever. They are very stubborn, and I am also very stubborn, and we can just never agree. Our views on many subjects vary too greatly for us to ever be on mutual terms... the only times we are actually "a family" is when we just ignore all the crap that makes us different. I suppose this is what alot of people do, but I think this is a fairly basic idea, no mindfuck there. Needless to say, I can't wait to get away from my parents.

1:43 p.m. "Lust For Life" is stuck in my head. Iggy Pop, yay! Chris and Yvonne are picking me up around two. My foot is asleep. Justin and I are talking about moving, getting out of this hell-hole that we currently call "home." I don't want to move far away; I'm in love with Pittsburgh. It's the perfect city for me. But, eventually, I want to travel and get out of the country. Ireland or England, or both. Yes, when I'm a famous artist, I'll have choices.
My art is frustrating me.. I brought home all of those acrylics before break, and I haven't painted one thing. Well, I tried, but I totally ruined a canvas in the process. I'm supposed to be painting an angel for Lyndsey, but I have no ideas... well, I thought of one, but I'm worried that it may freak her out. My draw to Japanese art is returning once again, and I was thinking of pulling from that style for inspiration, but I don't think that's what she had in mind. She said she would love anything, any interpretation of an angel, but I don't think she ever considered that running through my head. I would like to work in watercolor.. so maybe.. maybe tomorrow..
    I'll write more later..

September 21, 1999 I arrived at McNabb Ele. in Paducah, Kentucky today. The children were very excited when I got out of my box. They looked at the pictures that came with me. They told me that they have some of the same places as we do. Some of their favorites places are McDonald's and Chuckie Cheese's too. My first place to go with them was lunch. We had hamburgers and Breonna let me eat some of hers. When we arrived back at the classroom Mrs. Mathis' read us a story. Then it was time to go to Music. That was neat as we got to play instruments. I played the cymbals. That was fun! We went outside to find animals or objects that move. They are having a Environmental week and I get to take part in their activities. I was so excited when the students came back to school today. It was lonely last night. Shelby picked me up as soon as she came in the room. I sat in her lap during Math. She hugged me and even let me help her do her problems. I went to lunch with Mynesser today. They had fish sticks today and Mynesser decided she would rather have chicken salad. I'm glad she did. It was good. Today the class went to Art. Josh took me and we watched a movie about doing collages. They are starting to work on collages. After Art the class did their Phonics lesson. That was interesting. I've didn't know the C and K rules when spelling.
