81. Welcome To Prostate Cancer Care At Florida Hospital Celebration Health -
Provides comprehensive treatment options for patients and specializes in prostate cryosurgery.
http://www.hopeforprostatecancer.com
At Florida Hospital Celebration Health, it is our goal to provide the highest quality care for the patient with prostate cancer. While we offer all treatment options, we specialize in the newest treatment for prostate cancerĂ·prostate cryosurgery. Cryosurgery has been shown to have a number of advantages over traditional treatments for prostate cancer including:
  • extremely low complication rates
  • excellent treatment for patients with more extensive cancers
  • treatment for patients who have already failed radiation therapy
Based on these advantages Medicare has recently approved prostate cryosurgery for the treatment of stage T -T prostate cancer. All cryosurgical procedures performed through the clinic are performed using a team approach, consisting of an ultrasound expert and a urologist. Florida Hospital Celebration Health is a leader in diagnostic imaging. The latest technology including Doppler US, 3D ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Spectroscopy is available at this facility. Magnetic Resonance Imaging Spectroscopy looks at the chemical composition of the prostate and can detect cancer based on the different chemical composition of prostate cancer compared to normal prostate. This technique, will be added to our diagnostic options and is particularly useful in determining the extent of a patient's cancer, as well as guiding biopsies in those patients in whom the site of cancer is in question.

BPH
The Basics
Take an AUA Questionnaire

Special Feature: Saw Palmetto

The Basics What is it? Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a nodular, irregular enlargement of the prostate, the walnut-size gland located just below the bladder in men, which produces about 30 percent of the fluid portion of semen. Because the prostate surrounds the urethra (the passageway through which urine empties from the bladder), enlargement of the prostate may eventually constrict the urethra and thus interfere with urination. An enlarged prostate may also cause the muscular bladder wall to thicken, as stronger contractions are necessary to push urine through a narrowed urethra. Increased thickness of the wall of the bladder can reduce its ability to store urine and can result in frequent need for urination and sudden strong urges to urinate (urgency). BPH is common, and its incidence increases with age: Evidence of BPH is present in over 50 percent of men by age 60. There is no evidence that BPH leads to prostate cancer; however, symptoms of both disorders are similar, and it is possible to have BPH and prostate cancer at the same time. BPH responds well to treatment.

NCI's gateway for information about prostate cancer. SELECT (the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial) is the largest-ever prostate cancer prevention trial. Previous studies suggest that selenium and vitamin E (alone or in combination) may reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by 60 percent and 30 percent, respectively, but only a large clinical trial such as SELECT can confirm those initial findings. SELECT began enrolling patients on August 22, 2001, and hopes to enroll 32,400 men over a five-year period. In its first year of recruitment, SELECT enrolled 13,951 men, or 43 percent of the targeted goal. The study is open to men 55 and older. African-American men, 50 and over, are eligible to enroll because prostate cancer strikes African-American men earlier and more often than white men. There are 435 SELECT sites throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Coordinated by a network of researchers called the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), the study is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

PROSTATE CANCER!
And that you have several treatment options.
He tells you about surgery.
And then, if you are lucky - about
Radiation, Seed Implants, IMRT, EBRT, HDR
And about Cryo and Hormonal Ablation Therapy,
and even doing nothing, called Watchful Waiting.
He might say something about Alternatives
and maybe Complementary Medicine.
Or combinations of the above!
(All in 15 minutes.) He tells you that you have some decisions to make!
And the only thing you know when you leave the office Is that you have
PROSTATE CANCER!
Hearing that you have prostate cancer is so traumatic, for a while, you can't process anything else. But when reality sets in you need a place to go to learn and ask questions. THIS IS THE PLACE TO LEARN
An Encyclopedia of Information on Prostate Cancer for You!
This non-commercial web site, created and paid for by Don Cooley with help from donations and money received from the Prostate-Help CD-ROM - see the details by clicking on Prostate-Help CD-ROM The web site is a virtual encyclopedia of information covering all treatments and aspects of prostate cancer. It is 1,000,000 searchable words and about 450 web pages which is the equivalent of three or four (or more) normal books. It is kept current almost daily and therefore has the latest information. Overall, I believe, it is the largest prostate cancer site on the web developed and owned by an individual covering pre and post diagnosis information, treatments, studies and discussion groups - and much more. Almost everything you wanted to know about prostate cancer is here.
