You are here: College of Education About Our College Department of Secondary Education You may be a person who enjoys learning and sharing knowledge with others. You may find satisfaction in working with young people and seeing them grow in skill and independence. You may be challenged by work requiring organization of complex materials, constant communication with others, and leadership skills. These characteristics and others make a good secondary teacher. Secondary teachers know that a good education is the key to the future for tomorrow's adults. As a secondary teacher, you will be called upon to:
  • Teach the basic skills, content, and methods of learning about your teaching field.
    Respect the individual differences in development, attitude, and learning needs of young people as they respond to new situations.

    The CAME approach is being rapidly adopted and adapted in the classroom, often with the vital component of collaborative professional development. Having mathematics as a vehicle for developing pupils' general reasoning powers offers a fresh perspective on both the mathematics curriculum and mainstream pedagogy CAME is an integration of cognitive acceleration principles developed first in CASE ( Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education ), with outcomes of research in mathematics education at Kings College London since the mid 1970s. While remaining firmly within the overarching Cognitive Acceleration convention, (in 2002 part of the 10th International Conference on Thinking, Harrogate June 15-19), an additional independent strand of CAME is emerging to integrate it into the mainstream, and to explore commonalties and distinctions with other innovations in the field.     STAFF DEVELOPMENT POLICY
    POLICY
    Murdoch University values and actively encourages staff development. The University believes that quality staff development, which provides all staff with the opportunity to contribute more effectively by developing their particular abilities and skills, is integral to the University’s performance and reputation. This policy document sets out a framework for all staff development at Murdoch University, and is intended to serve as the basis for policies that address specific aspects of staff development. Staff development encompasses both development and training, and most staff development activities are a combination of both of these. Training focuses on skills and knowledge directly connected to a particular position or occupation, whereas development refers to learning or the acquisition of skills that may or may not be related specifically to current duties.

    As corporate vice president of the SQL Server Team at Microsoft Corporation, Gordon Mangione is responsible for the Microsoft, SQL Server business and plays a key role in defining Microsoft .NET server offerings. Prior to his current position, Mangione was Vice President of the Exchange team and was responsible for the overall design, development and shipping of the core components of Exchange 2000. Before joining the Exchange team, Mangione was a product unit manager in the Internet Services business and was the development manager for SNA Server. In that role, he was responsible for developing a line of Internet-based collaboration services. His position also included the development of SNA Server, one of the first servers developed for the Microsoft Windows NT operating system. Mangione joined Microsoft in 1991. He previously worked as a developer at Bell Northern Research, working on PC/telephony integration.
