    Geography Of Pitcairn
A Small Volcanic Island Pitcairn can be found in the eastern part of the Polynesian archipelagos. The closest inhabited islands stand 300 miles westward, and going southward nothing can be found, until the cold coast of Antarctic is reached. The island is about halfway between New Zealand and Panama.
Pitcairn is very small; it measures a little bit more than two miles and its surface is less than two square miles.
Pitcairn has volcanic origins so, unlike other Polynesian islands, it has very steepy coasts and its highest peak is about 1100 feet. Because of these features, the landing on the island is very difficult; Carteret himself, the first to discover Pitcairn, gave up to land, fearing the strong waves which hit the coasts.
Bounty Bay itself, the landing place of the mutineers, is not an actual bay, but rather an inlet, and the sea is never calm.
Seen from the sea, Pitcairn would look like a reversed canoe, showing its steepy shores, full of green trees; getting nearer rocks and the typical red ground can be seen. Many fruit trees can be found on the island: orange and lemon trees, banana trees, and the famous and typical bread trees.
The only settling is Adamstown , on the Edge , a little clear spot close to Bounty Bay.

    72. Geography Of Pitcairn
pitcairn includes three uninhabited islands Henderson (11.6 square miles),Ducie (both discovered in 1606 by Pedro Fernandez de Quiro) and Oeno.

    The Islands French Polynesia
    Geography
French Polynesia consists of five great archipelagos, the Society, Austral, Tuamotu, Gambier, and Marquesas islands. The Society Islands are subdivided into the Windwards or Iles du Vent (Tahiti, Moorea, Maiao, Tetiaroa, and Mehafa), and the Leewards or lies Sous le Vent (Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti). Together the 35 islands and 83 atolls of French Polynesia total only 3,543 square km in land area, yet they're scattered over 5,030,000 square km of the southeastern Pacific, from the Cook Is. in the west to Pitcairn in the east. There's a wonderful geological diversity to these islands midway between Australia and South America. From the dramatic, jagged volcanic outlines of the Society and Marquesas islands to the 400-meter-high hills of the Australs and Gambiers and the low coral atolls of the Tuamotus. All of the Marquesas are volcanic islands, while the Tuamotus are all coral islands or atolls. The Societies and Gambiers include both volcanic and coral types.
