Geography on the Internet
Like the tangible world of geographical earth space, the digital world of cyber space is a wonderfully complex place. There are loads and loads of information resources out there that you'll find useful and interesting; the trick is finding it. Well, navigating the Internet is more art than science, but here are some useful guidelines:
  • When you have a reasonably specific idea what you are looking forexpressed in terms of one or more key words or phrasesthen a search engine such as Google is probably your best bet. Type in your term(s), and see what serendipitous goodies Google brings.
  • When your area of interest is broadly or poorly defined, then you might be better served by a hierarchical web guide such as Yahoo! . For example, select the Science category, then the Geography subcategory, then the Cartography sub-subcategory, and you've got a hot-linked listing of dozens of mapping-related sites and additional subcategories.

GEOGRAPHY of Pakistan Pakistan is situated between latitude 24 and 37 degrees North and longitude 62 and 75 degrees East. The country borders Iran on the west, India and the east, Afghanistan in the north-west, China in the north and the Arabian Sea on the south. The great mountain ranges of the Himalayas, the Karakorams and  the Hindukush form Pakistan’s northern highlands of North West Frontier Province and the Northern Area. Punjab province is a flat, alluvial plain with five major rivers dominating the upper region eventually joining the Indus River flowing south to the Arabian Sea. Sindh is bounded on the east by the Thar Desert and the Rann of Kutch and on the west by the Kirthar range and the Balochistan Plateau is an arid tableland, encircled by dry mountains. Related Links

Pakistan
Dateline: 06/01/98 Pakistan is the world's seventh most populous country with 138 million in an area about the size of Texas and Louisiana combined. Over three quarters of the population is Sunni Muslim (most of the remainder is Shiite) and the country was originally designed as a Islamic state upon independence from the British in 1947. Prior to 1971, Pakistan as we know it today was just one half of Pakistan, known as West Pakistan. East Pakistan was separated from the West by India and about 1000 miles. East Pakistan revolted against West and became Bangladesh , proving that a fragmented state leaves a lot to be desired. The Pakistan of today has problems with most of its neighbors.

    Pakistan - Geography and Environment
On the high plateaux, water is scarce. Pakistan is in South-West Asia. Its neighbours are Iran, Afghanistan, China, and India. There are four provinces: Sindh, Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, and Baluchistan. The federal capital is Islamabad. Pakistan occupies a strategic position between Southern Asia and the Middle East. Four mountain ranges meet within its boundaries: the Karakorams, the Pamirs, the Himalayas, and the Hindu Kush. But other parts of Pakistan are rich and fertile. The land is very varied, including deserts, mountain, forests, and fertile plains. Pakistan experiences the most extreme temperatures on earth, from 50°c in the Sindh region in the summer, to minus 50°c in the northern mountain ranges in the winter. Pakistan faces great environmental challenges. Drought is a major problem in some areas, while in others it is floods that cause damage and hardship. The destruction of natural resources is a big problem. Pakistan suffers especially from water-logging of the soil and salinity (salty water), which has destroyed vast areas of crop-growing land and threatened the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of poor people who live in rural areas.

Pyramid peak of K2 World,s second-highest mountain, 28,250 ft GEOGRAPHY P akistan covers an area of 796,095 sq km lying between latitude 24 degree and 37 degree North and longitude 62 degree and 75 degree East. The country borders Iran on the west, India in the east, Afghanistan in the north and north-west and the People's Republic of China in the north-west to north-east. Pakistan is a land of many splendours. The scenery changes northward from coastal beaches, lagoons and mangrove swamps in the south to sandy deserts, desolate plateaus, fertile plains, and dissected upland in the middle and high mountains with beautiful valleys, snow-covered peaks and eternal glaciers in the north. The variety of landscape divides Pakistan into six major regions: the North High Mountainous Region, the Western Low Mountainous Region, the Balochistan Plateau, the Potohar Upland, the Punjab and the Sindh Plains. Stretching in the north, from east to west, are a series of high mountain ranges, which separate Pakistan from China, Russia and Afghanistan. They include the Himalayas, the Karakoram and Hindukush. With the assemblage of 35 giant peaks over 24,000 ft (7,315 m) high, the region is the climber's paradise. Many peaks are higher than 26,000 ft. The world's second highest peak K 2 (the "K" is the initial letter of the name of mountain Karakoram) tops at 28,250 ft. Inhospitable and technically more difficult to climb than even "Everest" they have taken the biggest toll of human lives in the annals of mountaineering. This region is home not only to some of the world's highest peaks but also some of the longest glaciers-
