SIRS Discoverer Deluxe is a fun, informative reference database for kids with thousands of articles and graphics from more than 1,200 domestic and international sources. The database is designed to develop research, reading, writing, language and computer skills among young researchers, and contains three reading and comprehension levels: Easy (grades 1-4), Moderate (grades 5-7) and Challenging (grade 8 and beyond). SIRS Discoverer Deluxe has been hailed by educators for its visual appeal and educational value. According to Theresa M. Fredericka, Executive Director of INFOhio, the organization chose SIRS Discoverer Deluxe based on "its educational content, interest and level of readability, particularly at the elementary level." Discoverer's three reading and comprehension levels, additional content databases and ease of use were all decisive factors in selecting the database. "SIRS is a highly-respected resource that allows INFOhio the opportunity to provide much needed resources to Ohio's students," said Fredericka. "I am very pleased that, because of the willingness of the Ohio Legislature to provide funding, we have the opportunity to partner with SIRS and can offer this excellent resource to all Ohio students and educators."

Vendor Discounts Library of Congress Codes for Ohio Schools Participants in INFOhio's library automation component who are creating a new MARC record or enhancing an existing record should add the appropriate Library of Congress/National Union Catalog (LC/NUC) code to the record's 040 tag. All Ohio public school districts and most private schools have already been assigned LC/NUC codes by Library of Congress personnel. Follow these steps to verify your building or district code:
  • Search LC's MARC Code List for Organizations for your institution. Search Tips: If your search is not immediately successful, use city and state. INFOhio's orders used the institution names in the Ohio Educational Directory at the time the request was placed; everyday usage may vary. If a code has not been assigned, place a request at How to Request a MARC Organization Code . Because the ordering process is now Web-based, codes can be ordered at the building/district level; orders no longer need placed through your DASite or through INFOhio. If a district prefers to have LC/NUC codes for each building, INFOhio suggests one person per district place the request. For more information about this process, visit the

Major schools sales for M3 and Databases SIRS Mandarin has a unique combination of databases and library system in its portfolio - giving them an advantage when approaching a large schools system with ambitions beyond merely automating the library. Recent successes have been in Alabama Indiana and Ohio schools.
    Alabama Virtual Library chooses SIRS.
Funded by the Alabama Legislature and managed by the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS), AVL provides online database access to public K-12 schools, public libraries, two-year colleges and member institutions of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (four-year colleges and universities). The Alabama Virtual Library and the Alabama Public Library Service are pleased that SIRS has become a partner in providing high quality electronic information to the students and citizens of Alabama, said Dr. Lamar Veatch, Director of APLS. SIRS represents a unique product that is very well suited to the needs of our students and teachers. We see SIRS as a critical element in the structure of the Alabama Virtual Library. SIRS reference databases contain thousands of full-text articles and graphics from almost 6,000 domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals and U.S. government publications. Database topics include global issues, economics, the environment, business, science, health, history, society, U.S. government legislation, culture and the arts and humanities.

(MS Word, 178 KB) 2002 College-Going Rates of Current Access Projects: (bar graph) table) Newcomerstown Model Program (PDF, 93 Kb) The OACHE Schools may submit a "model" program proposal or an "innovative" program proposal, or both. By submitting a model proposal, schools are committing to implement all components of the highly successful model program developed by Mr. Pat Cadle, Guidance Counselor at Newcomerstown High School in Tuscarawas County. Using this model, Newcomerstown High School increased its college-going rate from 28 percent to 72 percent in only three years. The model has been successfully replicated in numerous other schools including Southern Local High School in Meigs County, where the college-going rate exceeded 90 percent in 2001. An innovative proposal may use some or all components of the model program, with any modifications appropriate for a school's unique circumstances. For instance, the activities and timelines in the model program are designed for a four-year high school and will not be completely transferable to vocational and elementary schools. Nevertheless, applicants are strongly encouraged to use as many components of the proven model program as possible.
