. Discover the ancient legends of the Glooscap Trail in Northwestern nova scotia.TOWN OF PARRSBORO WHY AND WHEN THEN AND NOW. geography . .
http://www.town.parrsboro.ns.ca/OTTAWA.html
Welcome Parrsboro, is the largest town on the Minas Basin and a major tourist center on this portion of the Glooscap Trail.
The town has accommodations, gift shops, restaurants, a medical center, R.C.M.P., campgrounds, a quaint shopping area, parks, museums, a golf course, live theatre and a variety of nearby scenic drives.
The town is used as a headquarters by rockhounds who come to the Minas Basin looking for the zoolites semi- precious stones such as agate and amethyst that are found on the beaches and in the cliffs. Parrsboro holds an annual Rockhound Round-Up every year in August with displays, demonstrations, boat tours, and lectures on the hobby. The professional Ship's Company Theatre performs aboard the MV Kipawo, a former Minas Basin Ferry.
In 1985, the biggest fossil find in North America was unearthed on the North Shore of the Minas Basin near Parrsboro. This discovery consisted of more than 100,000 pieces of 200 million year old fossils, the largest single collection of fossils, the first such collection found in North America and the first fossils in a series of dinosaur footprints, each the size of a penny, which are the smallest ever discovered.
As early as 1776, Parrsboro, then known as Partridge Island, was a relatively important settlement. In 1784, the present name was given in honor of Lieut. Col. John Parr, then governor of Nova Scotia.

The Maritimes Weather Centre will increase the number of weather forecast districts from nine to 23 to provide more focused weather information, and to fine-tune weather warnings. On those few days in the year when the weather is similar throughout the province, you may still hear the same forecast for all of Nova Scotia, or one for all of the mainland and another one for all of Cape Breton. The seas play a major role in the physical geography of nova scotia, moderating theclimate, shaping the coastline and leaving a sedimentary record of changing
    http://www.geog.sussex.ac.uk/fieldclasses/novascotia/
Nova Scotia Field Class Aptly described on a provincial vehicle license plate as "Canada's Ocean Playground", the province of Nova Scotia is almost a peninsula: to the west is the Bay of Fundy, to the north the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and to the south and east the Atlantic Ocean. The seas play a major role in the physical geography of Nova Scotia, moderating the climate, shaping the coastline and leaving a sedimentary record of changing sea levels. During the ice ages, Nova Scotia was overridden by glaciers whose sediments and erosional features provide a record of ice-age history. Sussex's field class to Nova Scotia examines aspects of its glacial history, sea-level change and coastal geomorphology. Highlights of the trip include visits to:
    • the Bay of Fundy , location of the world's highest tidal range (=15 m)
    • Peggy's Cove , a scenic area of glacially-eroded granite on the Atlantic coast:
    • Joggins , on the Chignecto Peninsula, where three till sheets are superimposed:
    • Parrsboro , where an outwash plain and delta is dissected into fluvial terraces
    • the Bedford Institute of Oceanography at Dartmouth, Canada's largest centre for ocean research, and among the most-respected research institutions in the world.

Case Study A Waycobah First Nation Community (Nova Scotia)
Overview The Waycobah First Nation Community project was created to showcase the community of Waycobah. The goal of the teachers and students was to inform the global community about the Waycobah First Nation by sharing stories of their history, providing geographic information about their region, telling the stories of their community leaders, and sharing part of their current culture and language. The project started when the mathematics and computer-related studies teacher at Waycobah First Nation Secondary School found out about the GrassRoots contest and decided to participate in the "Communities@ca" category by engaging her students in the project by building a community Web page. For this interdisciplinary project, she collaborated with the senior high Mi'kmaq studies and language teacher. In her class, students compiled profiles of the seniors that were then integrated onto the Web site. The teachers planned the project with support from The Mi'kmaq Kina'matnewey Technical Support people (now known as the Atlantic Canada First Nation Help Desk (www.firstnationhelp.com)), who also provided the school with the space to host their Web site.
