Parental discretion advised. Excerpt from Episode #4.28: "The Devil You Know" "What do you mean?" "You want muscle, I got it. You want something sold, I can sell it. You want someone to fix problems, I can do that." Del pauses, and then gives a small chuckle of secret amusement. "And I'm real good at convincing people of things." "Really." Tristan tilts his head. "Well then, convince me to hire you. What's your background? What kind of work experience have you had?" After taking a long sip of coffee, Del puts the half-finished mug down on the desk in front of him. "Been working since I was twelve. Bagged groceries at the Shop 'n' Go, made fries at McDonald's, washed cars, bussed tables ... y'know, the usual bullshit jobs that earned me next to nothing. Then I started dealing." Tristan blinks at the other man's casual announcement. "Uh to clarify, by 'dealing' you mean" "Drugs." Del's smile turns crooked. "And that earned me a lot more money...

The following compilation of Internet/WWW sites is intended to be an introductory guide to some of the map and reference resources available via the World Wide Web. Consider using one of the WWW search engines if you are looking for a specific type of map or reference. The maps which are listed here have been selected because they are thought to be reasonably useful and/or interesting. They are categorized by geographical region although there are a couple of thematic categories such as Interactive Maps which both highlights the potential of the WWW and are also fun to use. Note that there is some overlap in geographic coverage between these categories. The emphasis is on displayable maps (e.g. images) rather than digital cartographic (GIS) and satellite data which can be found in the separate compilation Geodata Information Sources . There is also another listing which includes Weather Maps and Imagery

New York 1964 World's Fair
Last updated on August 8, 2000
The 1964 New York World's Fair at Flushing Meadow in Queens, New York had a two year run; from April 22 to October 18, 1964 and from April 21 to October 17, 1965 - a total of 360 days. It was held in conjunction with the city of New York's 300th anniversary of British forces under the command of the Duke of York gaining control of the Dutch city of New Amsterdam in 1664.
The 1964-65 World's Fair featured 140 pavilions on 646 acres, the old site of the 1939-40 New York's World Fair. Althought the majority of the pavilions were United States commerical companies, there were also 21 state pavilions and 36 foreign pavilions. It was the dawn of the space age and the fair's theme was "Man in a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe."
The problem was that the fair wasn't sanctioned by the Bureau of International Expositions because world's fairs are limited to one year runs. Besides the BIE had already given their blessing to Seattle's 1962 fair (only one U.S. fair allowed per decade). Consequently most European countries and the Communist bloc boycotted it. None-the-less countries mainly in Asia, South America, the Mid-East and Africa were represented.
But it was U.S. industry, led by General Electric, Ford, General Motors, Crysler, I.B.M., Bell Telephone, U.S. Steel, Pepsi Cola, Dupont, RCA and Westinghouse that spent lavishly, erected handsome pavilions and stuffed them with entertainment that they hoped would boost their image with consumers. In all more than a billion dollars was invested.

Coney Island History Site
Last Updated on August 8, 2000
This interactive educational site covers the history of Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It features timelines, historic articles and photographs, interactive maps that when clicked on show historic views, and lists of movies filmed on Coney Island's streets, beaches and amusement parks. Coney Island was considered the world's largest and premier amusement area during the first half of the 20th Century. It was a beach resort that provided carefree entertainment and thrilling amusement park rides to the millions of residents that lived in New York City. It featured three huge amusement parks; Luna Park, Steeplechase and Dreamland, and countless other attractions along the Bowery, Surf Avenue and its numerous side streets. The historic articles and photographs for this educational site are based on Jeffrey Stanton's research for a forthcoming history book that would concentrate on Coney Island's amusement park business during the 20th century. While others have written extensively on the area's early history and its social history, they have sadly neglected the amusement park rides and the people who designed them. Book Status: Text nearly complete with 135,000 words in seven chapters. However photos of rides and attractions are sparse and publishers aren't interested in a book with text. May have to self publish.
