Birds of Prey: Understanding Predation and Northeastern Birds of Prey
This timeless publication is used in homeschools and classrooms. Detailed species accounts of 27 vultures, hawks, eagles, ospreys, falcons, and owls. Includes 27 color plates and illustrations. Shows a typical food chain and typical food web. The authors explore the role of predation in nature, predator-prey relationships, and life histories and ecology of birds of prey. 48 pp.
Enhancement of Wildlife Habitat on Private Lands
Have you ever wondered what you could do to help wildlife or why you should? An increase in some insect-eating birds around a garden may naturally reduce insect damage to garden produce. Habitat enhancement can increase both the number and variety of wildlife on your property to allow close viewing or study of various birds and mammals. Conversely, do you want to know what kind of habitat attracts unwanted wildlife to your land? This publication shows what types of habitat attract which animals so you can either attract, or discourage, these creatures. Includes dozens of illustrations and detailed instructions for making 10 habitat projects. Many are applicable for an urban park, suburban backyard or rural area. 42-pp. ISBN 1-57753-223-6

Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) Mission Area
The goal of the Natural Resources and Environment mission area is to ensure the health of the land through sustainable management. To achieve this goal, NRE agencies work to: prevent damage to natural resources and the environment; restore the resource base and environment to a healthy and sustainable condition where it is impaired; and promote good land management to conserve resource health and ensure the maximum return from investment in conservation. NRE is composed of the Forest Service (FS) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Both agencies also assist with rural development and help communities with natural resource concerns, such as erosion control, watershed protection, and forestry.

DENR Goes Online with Forms/Applications
A state government effort to get all forms and applications online is nearing completion in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. DENR will be one of the first agencies to reach the goal of 100% online with over 100 forms and applications being made available on the web. It is anticipated that online versions of all DENR forms and applications will be available early next year. The purpose of online forms is to allow the form to be filled out on a computer and then either be submitted to DENR electronically or be printed for mailing. Most of the online forms and applications will be in a PDF format which means users will need Acrobat Reader (a free plug-in for your web browser) in order to complete the forms. A sampling of these online forms is available on the Water Rights website . In addition, all DENR forms are currently available for download if you prefer to complete a form or application by hand.

T he wise utilization and management of our natural resources is a primary focus for researchers in Michigan State University's College of Engineering. Environmental engineers work to protect the environment by investigating the physical, chemical, and biological processes that control both the behavior of contaminants in the environment and the performance of engineered treatment and remediation systems. Researchers who specialize in energy issues are studying the most efficient methods of generating, transmitting, and utilizing energy, while reducing the impact that these activities have on air and water quality. Twenty-two faculty members from five academic departments are involved in environmental research. This expertise is centered in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering . University of Florida degrees in Environmental Science and Interdisciplinary Ecology Undergraduate Graduate Enrollment Letter from the Dean The College of Natural Resources and Environment offers a baccalaureate degree in Environmental Science, with Bachelor of Science tracks in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management and Bachelor of Arts tracks in Environmental Education and Environmental Policy. The college also offers the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Interdisciplinary Ecology. The mission of the college is to provide interdisciplinary environmental degree programs with university-wide scope and to develop leaders with integrated thinking about natural and social systems, ready to face challenges in natural resources and the environment with reliable knowledge and good judgment. photo by John Moran/The Gainesville Sun The college's undergraduate degree tracks are science-based, interdisciplinary, and academically rigorous. The curriculum spans the range of human knowledge needed to solve complex environmental problems not amenable to narrowly based solution. It offers access to 200 courses taught in 56 departments, uniting much of the University's academic program in a future-oriented liberal science. The curriculum combines the basic and applied sciences needed to diagnose problems, the engineering needed to devise solutions, and the social sciences of human processes and institutions needed to take action. The degree does not replace the related, more specialized degrees offered in the University's departments of engineering, life, and social sciences.
