No. 1. "Housing rights legislation: Review of international and national legal instruments" (HS/638/01 E) Abstract: A review of housing rights in international and national law, including a discussion of housing rights as progressive legal obligations. The report also reviews selected adjudication, e.g. how housing rights legislation is being implemented. The report illustrates that effective constitutional and legislative measures on the right to adequate housing are not only realistic but have already been used successfully in a number of countries. The examples presented provide a framework for model legislation with respect to specific components of the right to adequate housing. UN-HABITAT and OHCHR , Nairobi and Geneva, 2002. Off-Campus Housing Services Off-campus housing in the area around the University of Michigan campus is extensive and varied. The primary purpose of University Housing's Off-Campus Housing Program is to assist members of the University community in understanding the local housing market and to inform students, faculty, and staff about the housing opportunities available in the area, including those listed by the over 450 area landlord s, property managers, and management companies registered with the Housing Information Office.
"Off-campus housing" simply refers to any housing not owned and operated by the University. Off-campus housing includes shared housing - fraternities, sororities, and student owned-and-operated co-ops - as well as apartment s, house s, and rooms.
We do not operate as a real estate office or show you specific rental units. However to help make the work of finding and securing housing easier, the Housing Information Office has advisors available to answer off-campus housing questions, provide a general orientation to the Ann Arbor area and lists of available housing, and assist you in starting your search. Conflict Resolution Services The Housing Information Office provides advising and conflict resolution services for students living off-campus. If you experience a problem with your

Formerly by Walter Raushenbush and James McDonald 2001 Edition, 750 pages, $50.00 Completely Revised, Updated, and Expanded The law school is proud to offer the 2001 edition of Wisconsin Real Estate Law , a book with a long history of service to the Wisconsin real estate community. Because earlier editions written by Walter Raushenbush and James MacDonald were widely used and referred to, Wisconsin Real Estate Law is regarded as a standard reference on real estate transactions for brokers, salespersons, lawyers, and other professionals. Scott C. Minter, a program attorney and lecturer at the law school, coauthored the 1994 edition and has assisted in the development and publication of this book since the law school published the 1984 edition. We are pleased with the cooperation this project has continued to receive from the Wisconsin real estate community. The assistance of the Wisconsin REALTORS Association has been of great value. Introduction The state may regulate the use and enjoyment of individual property for the good of its citizens. Such regulation does not usually conflict with the constitutional protections given to the owner or occupant of property. The right of the state (or municipality as the state's delegate) to enact and enforce a housing code is based on the state's police power. This general authority has never been precisely defined, but it has recently been called "The power inherent in a Government to enact laws within Constitutional limits to protect the order, safety, health, morals, and general welfare of society." Courts have pointed out that municipalities may properly impose restrictions on individual property owners when these restrictions are needed for the protection of the public health, safety, or welfare.

Fall 1996 The materials and conditions of manufactured housing provided the premise for an advanced architecture design studio for twelve students at Harvard University Graduate School of Design in the fall of 1996. The studio addressed formal design issues while providing students with informational
expertise and communicable knowledge. The course was sponsored by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. Travel and field trips informed the work. The students began the semester by disassembling a mobile home in a local trailer park. A visit to the
construction site of a wood frame house set a background for understanding conventional construction. The class then traveled to learn how manufactured homes are assembled in a factory; to see how they are sold from dealer's lots; and to see them installed in residential settlements, including old style "trailer parks" and the newest land developments in Massachusetts and North Carolina.

    • Disability
    • Sex
    • Public Assistance (MFIP, GA, SSI, etc.)

The law doesn't just apply to landlords. It also applies to neighbors, real estate brokers, mortgage lenders, and others. The law protects you whether you rent or own.
WHAT ARE COMMON EXAMPLES OF DISCRIMINATION?
    Application Denials
    • When you call on the phone, the apartment is available. But when the landlord sees the color of your skin, it is "already rented."
    • The landlord says "no MFIP" or "no welfare."
    • You get rejected because you have a disability, even though your disability would not prevent you from following the lease.
