"Palestinian Refugees from Lebanon in Diaspora. A Geography of Exile". The Palestinian refugee question evokes the consequences of the contemporary Middle Eastern conflicts. The exodus of the Palestinians, like the permanence of their exile, are the conseqences of the major transformations of the contemporary Middle-East. The 1948 exodus ans its developments, leads to a reflexion on the refugee status, and its geographical implications (i.e. the creation of the camps and the new forms of migrations) in an area crossed by geopolitical crises and in the context of a globalized migratory system. The Palestinians of Lebanon form one of the communities in diaspora whose geography is most singular and whose future is most problematic. The study of their migratory dynamics is a relevant tool for an analysis of the geopolitical tranbsformation of the Middle East, as well as the socio-spacial transformation of the Palestinian diaspora. The Palestinians of Lebanon have developed a particular spacial practice which is seen in their modes of settlement in Lebanon and in the development, during this last decade, of migratory networks towards Europe. The refugee camps occupy a particular place in the Palestinian geography of exile, because they are places of memory and because they register in the geography the exodus of 1948 as well as the permanence of the question of the refugees. They have allowed the maintenance and the adaptation of the traditional systems of solidarity, which are one of the principal keys of comprehension of the organization of the Palestinian diasporic geography. These new migrations towards Europe, that are based on the projection of these networks of solidarity on a transnational scale, raise the question of the space redeployment of a diaspora of refugees, as well as the resettlement and/or the return of the Palestinians.
