    Geography
The area of Lebanon is 10,452 square kilometers, with a population of around 4 millions. Lebanon lies
to the east of the Mediterranean, sharing borders to the north and east with Syria, and to the south with Israel. Lebanon is hemmed between sea and mountain, and it has an extremely narrow coastal strip that stretches along the shore of the eastern Mediterranean.
It is a mountainous country and between the two mountain ranges of Jebel Lubnan (Mount Lebanon),
Mount Hermon and the Anti-Lebanon range lies the fertile Bekaa Valley, which is part of the Great Rift system, which stretches from southern Turkey to Mozambique in Africa.
Approximately half of the country lies at an altitude of over 900m (3000ft). Lebanon's highest peaks
are Qurnat as Sawda' (3,088 m/10,131 ft) in the country's north, and volcanic Mount Hermon
(2,814 m/9,232 ft) at the southern end of the Anti-Lebanons. The country's name comes from the old Semitic word laban, meaning "white," which refers to the heavy snow in the mountains.
Into this small country is packed such a variety of scenery that there are few places to equal it in beauty and choice. The famous cedar trees grow high in the mountains, while the lower slopes bear grapes, apricots, plums, peaches, figs, olives and barley, often on terraces painstakingly cut out from the mountainsides.

    http://csrd.lau.edu.lb/Publications/StudentReports/Geography of Lebanon.htm
Geography of Lebanon - Prepared by Hani Chaar I INTRODUCTION : Lebanon, officially the Lebanese Republic, republic in the Middle East, bordered on the north and east by Syria, on the southeast and south by Israel, and on the west by the Mediterranean Sea. Its area is 10,452sq km (4,035sq mi) of which 10230sq km represent the land area. Its coordinates 33 50 N and 35 50 E. The country is in the "Fertile crescent", an area from Egypt to Israel covering Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Cyprus. The capital and leading port is Beirut. II LAND AND RESOURCES: Lebanon is a rugged, mountainous country unlike any other in the Middle East. It has no great sun-baked deserts, no herds of camels or long lines of palm trees. Lebanon’s valleys are green and fertile, and heavy mists obscure its snowy mountain peaks. Its geography is extremely striking and varied, and the sandy beaches of the snow-covered slopes of the mountain regions. The country contains four distinct geographic regions: the coastal plain, the Lebanon Mountains, the Anti-Lebanon and Hermon Mountains, and the Bekaa valley. Most of the Lebanon’s major population centers are situated in this narrow strip along the shore. Lebanon is about 217km (135mi) long and 40 to 80 km (25 to 50 mi) wide. A very narrow coastal plain extends along the Mediterranean Sea. Inland the terrain is dominated by two major mountain ranges, which are separated by the fertile Bekaa Valley. The Lebanon range rises abruptly from the coastal plain; it is cut by numerous deep gorges and in the north contains the country’s highest peak, Qurnat as-sawd⒠(3,083m/10,115ft). The other major range, the anti-Lebanon, lies along the Syrian border in the east. Lebanon’s major, and only navigable, river, the Litani, is in the Bekaa Valley. Many of the other rivers flow only during the rainy winter season.

Coming Next ... Lebanon through history : Scene 2
Let 's go back in history and have a look at one of the oldest civilization in the world. Lebanon has a rich history. From its geographical position Lebanon was the center of the ancient world. So many civilizations had foot in the eastern region of the Mediterranean sea, from the Phoenicians to the Romans then the Ottoman Empire, and the French colonist. History was written on rocks, in the "Ourjouan" (purple) color, in the Alphabet, under the old ruins, by pen, by stories and myths, legends of the old world, in the heart of kings or "amir" (prince), by art and music, architecture and science, poets and writers, in the cedars and in the echoing sounds of the mountains and deep valleys, by all religions and wars, by love and piece !!!
