Mexico Business Opportunities And Legal Framework
What follows is the Table of Contents for a detailed "Doing Business" guide prepared by the law firm Goodrich, Riquelme and Associates T his guide has been written for those business people who believe that, above all, there are profitable opportunities for their companies in Mexico. Business people familiar with doing business outside of their home country know that preparation and planning for entry into international markets is essential. This guide will alert those who approach the Mexican market, and their legal counsel, to the existing legal and regulatory framework.
A lthough the guide is accurate at the time of its completion, June 30, 1995, it is important to bear in mind that reforms to the legal and regulatory systems are on-going and, thus, users of this guide are urged to ensure that regulations are current and, therefore at the time of decision making, to obtain competent legal advice. T he structure of this document followed a general outline of the main Section headings prepared for Lex Mundi for "Doing Business" Guides, which has been, as of this date, used by more than 50 member law firms and supplemented by Sections XIX through Conclusion added by the Editor.

5. Courses
The fields of inquiry in the following courses range from technical questions of little public interest to general ones of great social concern. In each course, one aim is to qualify the student as a strategist and an advocate, equipped with the knowledge, insight, and skills to serve clients through advice, negotiation, and planning, as well as by representing them in litigation. Another aim is to qualify the student as a responsible member of a profession that, throughout the history of this nation, has been prominent in the resolution of social, economic, and political problems and has been profoundly concerned with the public welfare. Hence, every law course focuses on the need for creative solutions to conflicts between individuals and between individuals and society. This is as it should be, for the function of law is to serve as a catalyst that makes community life possible and a better society attainable. The faculty has approval to offer the following courses in the academic years 2002-2003 and 2003-2004; however, not all courses are taught each semester or summer session. Each spring the law school issues a manual of course descriptions and academic advice; law students should consult this manual before registering.

A Businessman's Guide to Dubai Setting up businesses in Dubai In the UAE, economic activity is regulated by individual emirates as well as the Federal Government. In Dubai, the authorities have deliberately sought to create an environment which is well ordered without being unduly restrictive. As a result, Dubai offers businessmen operating conditions that are among the most liberal and attractive in the region. There are many options open to international companies seeking to establish a business relationship with Dubai. Apart from forming a trading relationship, for many companies there are distinct advantages in being on-the-spot to research market prospects, make contacts, liaise with customers, and see through the details of any transactions and orders secured. Having a presence can provide considerable business advantages in the Middle East. Businessmen in the region prefer to deal with someone they know and trust and personal relationships are much more important in doing business in the Arab world than they are in western Europe or America. Also, the buying patterns of some countries served by Dubai tend to be unpredictable, creating a need for first class market intelligence and information. Licensing The basic requirement for all business activity in Dubai is one of the following three categories of licences:

Tree Services
Trees
A tree or shrub belongs to the owner of the land on which it grows even if its branches or roots go over or under adjoining land. This includes the branches and the fruit of any tree or shrub. This even applies to windfall apples etc. The Theft Act 1968 makes it a criminal offence to take wild flowers, fruit and foliage from any plant if it is sold for commercial gain. However, falling leaves and fruit still belong to the owner of the tree or shrub, the law does not require the owner to come and sweep up the leaves or pick up the fruit. Having said that if falling leaves block a gutter, which results in water damage, the owner of the tree could be sued for damage. You are not allowed to go onto your neighbours land or to lean over it to cut your hedge. You need the permission of your neighbour. The same is true about going onto your neighbours land to pick up windfalls or trim back branches. More...

The Quarterly Statistics publication presents data on the main activities of the National Insurance Institute - i.e. collection of insurance contributions and benefit payments in the various insurance branches - and is divided into sections by insurance branch. General Old-Age and Survivors Long-Term Care Income Support Benefit ... Enforcement and Implementation
Most sections include figures on the total number of payments in the branch, benefit recipients by different attributes, pension rates and average pension. Each section begins with its own preface, containing definitions and explanations of terms peculiar to that particular section. Explanations pertaining to all the sections are brought below.
Benefits - Payments made by the National Insurance Institute to the insured in the different insurance branches, according to the law. The National Insurance Law defines the payments to the eligible insured persons. In law, these are called benefits, pension, allowances, remunerations, grants and so on. The terms are interchangeable and have a similar meaning, appearing in each section according to the customary use at the NII.
Period - Generally, monthly or quarterly figures are listed for the current year, and annual figures for the last 5 consecutive years. As to earlier periods, as of 1955 figures are presented for every fifth year. Also included are years of particular interest in which a new law or significant amendment came into effect.

The Governor appoints the justice from the names received, and the appointee must receive the advice and consent of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. As the court of last resort, the Supreme Court is the final interpreter of state law. The Supreme Court has final appellate jurisdiction over questions of law and equity, supervisory powers over other state courts, and general advisory responsibility to the legislative and the executive branches of state government concerning the constitutionality of legislation. Regulating admission to the Rhode Island Bar and disciplining its members are also responsibilities of this court.
