What is generative and component-based software engineering?
The goal of generative and component-based software engineering is to increase the productivity, quality, and time-to-market in software development thanks to the deployment of both standard componentry and production automation. One important paradigm shift implied here is to build software systems from standard componentry rather than "reinventing the wheel" each time. This requires thinking in terms of system families rather than single systems. Another important paradigm shift is to replace manual search, adaptation, and assembly of components with the automatic generation of needed components on demand. Generative and component-based software engineering seeks to integrate domain engineering approaches, component-based approaches, and generative approaches.

for iNews
Science came alive for students from eastern Idaho schools attending the 12th annual expedition telecast of the JASON Project Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, and Feb. 5-9 at the Idaho State University College of Education auditorium in Pocatello. The Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, supported by a grant from the Office of Naval Research, brought the JASON Project to Idaho schools. The interactive broadcast, entitled JASON XII “Hawaii: A Living Laboratory,” intermingled thousands of students from around the country via satellite with 22 student argonauts at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Bev Cook, left, DOE-Idaho Operations Office manager, and Julie Tullis, right, a Hillcrest High School science teacher, describe volcanic rock to students attending the JASON live broadcast at Idaho State University. Idaho argonaut One of the argonauts was 14-year-old Travis Potter of Coeur d’Alene, the first Idaho student chosen as an argonaut in the 15-year history of the JASON Project.
