Gretchen: Does this mean no more Tacos and Molsons? So how do you really feel about leftist Canadians, eh? Unblinded Bythewool , Canada, eh? Wow, this board is a whole new place. Gretchen, in my experience the best way to end a bout of depression is to go to nature. I'm not totally keen on the geopgraphy of Cali, but if you could make it out to Yosemite you should. Go there, take a break, do some writing, some thinking, and try to remember what is really important in life. Drew , Ann Arbor At the same time the cliches only exist because we allow them to affect our lives, to live outside these things is not impossible or even impracticable, its (as cheesy as it sounds) a state of mind, if you let go of the things that bind you they lose a great deal of their power. To make a potentially confusing example: Catholics have a belief system that is essentially run by guilt and the concept of seeking forgiveness for "sins"(no offense to catholics) the strength of the bond of guilt is entirely reliant upon the person to impose it on themselves, stop feeling guilty and you have no more g... And the activities that aren't hard core profit motivated are subservient and reliant on those that are. The cult of personality, the cult of fame, the cult of surface, all the cliches exist for a reason.

In the last ten years, since the Gulf war, we are witnessing a permanent clash between two different cultures: American and Iraqi. On one hand we have Iraq, an old, traditional culture rooted in spiritual values and rich Mesopotamian heritage. It is a persistent, strong and popular culture based on production of artifact of great beauty and high crafts and artistic values. Great architectural and applied arts masterpieces and sacred object are placed everywhere in the vast Iraqi land, in museums, urban complexes and sanctuaries. On the other hand we have the USA, a young, brave, aggressive and ambitious culture with dominant materialistic values - profit and benefit as a main goal of its leaders and inhabitants. The main and most sophisticated products of their culture are weapons of all kinds. They have improved them to perfection, for powerful effects of destruction of building structures, people, even plants, with possibility of

Growing Division The dilemma how a conflict with Saddam Hussein should be solved and whether the military action in Iraq is justified split the Europe. Iraqi question caused not only conflict between the USA and some European countries but it contributed to the growing division inside Europe. Not a good sign in the time when European Union is stronger than ever and it is expanding to the Eastern Europe. While the European governments are divided in their response to war the majority of common people in Western and also Eastern Europe are overwhelmingly against the war. According to poll published HERE in the average 70-90% of people are against it. But the thesis that Europe is divided into “Old Europe” and “New Europe” (Eastern Europe countries) is premature. The division is more complicated. Although France and Germany, two core countries of “old Europe” are indeed against it, some Western European countries strongly support the stand of the USA government. On the other hand the leaders of Eastern Europe countries are overwhelmingly in support of American was against Iraq. The divisions in opinions caused stalemate in fast decision making in NATO and European Union. Countries of Europe which support the USA military action in Iraq are Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands and majority of countries of Eastern Europe. Some Eastern European countries are more eager than the other with American support.
