42. American Massage Therapy Association - Illinois Chapter
Features news, resources and education for massage therapists throughout the state, including licensing and certification programs, events and workshops, FAQs, and contact details.
http://www.amta-il.org/
What's New! " Frequently Asked Questions " about licensing in Illinois and a "Fact Sheet on Grandfathering" were put together by your Chapter officers. As we learn more, we will add to this. View or print a copy of Public Act 92-0860 at www.legis.state.il.us/legislation/publicacts/pubact92/acts/92-0860. You can e-mail questions to us, or leave a message at the Chapter office.
Fact Sheet on Grandfathering
(As of February 7, 2003)
When any profession becomes newly licensed in Illinois, an effort is made to allow existing practitioners to continue with their work if they meet certain minimum standards, usually less stringent than those that new practitioners must meet. The Illinois law has several ways to meet the grandfathering requirements, depending on your credentials and years of work in the profession. If you have been a practicing massage therapist in Illinois when the law takes effect, you may choose to apply to be grandfathered if you do not meet the regular requirements for licensing in the law. This opportunity to meet alternative standards is available for one year from the date the Massage Licensing Board adopts Rules of Practice, according to the law. We are seeking clarification about how that timeframe relates to the provision in the law that requires you to be licensed in order to practice after January 1, 2004. (If you meet the standard requirements, you may apply for a conventional license if you choose.)

GRAPEVINE
G ay R ights A dvocates P roviding E ducation V ia I llinois NE tworking Dear grapevine user: Unfortunately, time and priority constraints prevent me from keeping the web resources current. These links may now be out of date or broken. There are also now many excellent resources on the Internet for our concerns. However, I have learned over the three years that this page has operated that it has been useful to many people, so I am leaving it up, for the time being, with this caveat.
Statement of Purpose
It is the purpose of this web site and the corresponding listserv grapevine to promote equitable treatment of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered/ transsexual individuals at Illinois educational institutions. The focus of Grapevine is on education. This site serves minority interests, and is also designed to help all the citizens of the State of Illinois see that honoring diversity includes honoring diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity. The priorities of Grapevine are urgent matters for Illinois in exactly the same sense that the rights of women and men and racial, political, and religious groups are urgent matters. When one group is oppressed for any reason, all groups in the body politic suffer. We do not like to see our brothers and sisters living with unexamined or unsupported assumptions about gay people, for prejudice limits the humanity of its bearers, even as it limits those humans who are its object. There is a new clear vision in the air. It is the realization by many in the business, political, educational and clerical communities that we must understand and accept our differences to appreciate our common humanity. As this site develops it is my hope to provide access to resources that demonstrate the clear advantage to ALL citizens of an inclusive and effective diversity program in all educational institutions in the State of Illinois. We believe that the facts are with us. We only ask you to honestly consider them.
