Evelyn Deimel, Program Coordinator
One of the goals of the Illinois State Board of Education is to provide high school non completers access to the comprehensive school-to-work system in Illinois (Education-to Careers). To achieve this goal, the Alternative Learning Partnerships Division of the Business, Community and Family Partnerships Center has designated funds for the Early School Leaver Program . This program is designed for high school non completers who are sixteen to twenty-one years of age who want to complete the secondary level of education and obtain work-site learning experiences. Only those youth who demonstrate a willingness to meet both objectives and who are able to benefit from such a program are selected through an interview process. While some of the reentering youth will participate in programs granting a high school diploma, most of the youth will complete the secondary level of education through passage of the Tests of General Educational Development. Research indicates that a demonstrated reading level of 10.0 on the Test of Adult Basic Education (or equivalent) is required to successfully complete the Tests of General Educational Development. Therefore, the realistic entry reading level for this program has been established at 9.0 on the Test of Adult Basic Education (or equivalent). GUIDELINES The regulations for cooperative vocational education are found in the

ALL the Illinois Home Education Laws in One Place I have wanted to be able to find all the laws and regulations that apply to home education in Illinois. I have found no single source for them all, so I am collecting them here as I find them. If you find some more or find an error, please let me know! Some of this information is from notes I took at various seminars, and I will add the exact requirements and legal citations as soon as I can. Consider this one parent's outline for further research, not a legal resource! Presently this very long page is divided into these sections. Either scroll through, or click these shortcuts to go to a section quickly. This will print to about 14 typed pages, depending on your screen magnification. E xcellence I n E ducation I n O ur H ome. Welcome to our home education links collection! We homeschooled from April, 1985 to Sept 1998, and are again. We found the Charlotte Mason method to be the best for us. We are dyslexic, and used a multi-sensory approach to our literature core. We had many excursions down side trails, experimenting with different curriculum as we learned education truly is an "Atmosphere, a Discipline, and a Life".
If you are interested in Charlotte Mason, look HERE . CM is often considered an "Unschooling" method, so you may be interested in those sites. Of course, the catalogs are full of fun projects and good books too- so look around! Don't forget to check out our booklist to see what we have used and liked best. URL: http://www.state.il.us/Gov/press/charter.htm Major Components of the Illinois Charter School Law (Article 27A of the School Code) Illinois's 1996 charter law allows 45 charter schools: 15 in Chicago, 15 in the counties surrounding Chicago, and 15 elsewhere. While this cap on the number of charter schools in Illinois is fairly restrictive for such a large state, it is not unusual. Many states limit the number of charter schools initially. A local school board must approve the charter school, although the board's decision can be appealed to the state board. The state does not provide funding for start-up costs. However, the Illinois State Board of Education received a federal grant of $788,000 per year (for potentially three years) to stimulate and support the establishment of charter schools.

Class Attendance
Class attendance at the University of Illinois is expected, and each instructor decides when a student's absences become excessive. Since attendance expectations are between the student and instructor, the student is obligated to explain his absences and provide supporting evidence if requested by the instructor. The Instructional Programs Office will not provide excuses to instructors when students miss class. In emergency situations, students may contact the 24-hour Emergency Dean in the Fred H. Turner Student Services Building at 333-0050. This office may require that the student document the emergency before instructors will be notified. Back to Top
Grade Point Average Requirements
Students in all teacher education curricula are expected to maintain at least a 2.50 University of Illinois and cumulative grade point average for continuation in good standing. In addition, students must have a 2.50 cumulative and UIUC grade point average to be eligible to student teach and to receive the University's recommendation for certification. Students who do not meet these minimum scholarship requirements will be placed on academic probation. Failure to meet probation levels may result in an academic drop from the College and the University. Freshmen especially need to be aware that their cumulative grade point average after their first two semesters must be at least a 2.50 in order for them to continue in good standing in the College of Education.
