When functioning federal computers and related educational equipment (including printers, modems, servers and routers, and equipment used for technology education) become available at the INEEL, it is declared excess and placed in the gift program. ISDE then helps Idaho school districts meet their equipment needs by generating a list of recipient schools to which the equipment can be gifted. In establishing this list, the ISDE selects the schools and identifies the proportion in which the excess equipment is to be distributed among the schools throughout Idaho.

Crucial Technology
A division of Micron and one of the world's largest computer memory upgrade providers, today announced it will donate approximately 200 memory modules - valued at over CDN$6,300 (US$4,000) - to upgrade computers for public schools and libraries throughout Alberta, Canada. The donation, coordinated through the non-profit organization Alberta Computers for Schools, is part of the Education is Crucial program. It mirrors a similar gift in Idaho, USA, home of Crucial's corporate headquarters and Alberta's regional partner. "We are pleased Crucial may play a role in improving the technological resources for schools in Alberta," said Mike Bokan, General Manager at Crucial Technology. "Upgrading memory is the best way to maximize performance and life of existing hardware, allowing teachers and students to efficiently use educational applications and the Internet." "At Alberta CFS, our goal is to give new life and purpose to older computers, putting them to work in the education of our children," said Lucien Villeneuve, Manager of Alberta Computers for Schools. "Crucial's memory upgrades will extend the life of our computers and make them much more valuable to the children who use them.
"Since 1997, Crucial donated more than CDN$302,000 (US$190,000) in computer memory upgrades to Idaho schools through its Education is Crucial program. Crucial extended the program to Alberta this year following a cooperative agreement between Idaho and Alberta to strengthen the relationship between the two governments. The agreement commits Idaho and Alberta to work together in areas such as technology, education, agriculture, forestry, transportation, trade, tourism, and the environment.

UI FACULTY-STAFF HANDBOOK CHAPTER ONE: 1120 HISTORY, MISSION, GENERAL ORGANIZATION, AND GOVERNANCE July 1998 ORIGINS AND GROWTH OF THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO PREAMBLE: This section sketches a very brief history of the University of Idaho. Fuller information can be found in Statutes and Decisions Relating to the University of Idaho by Harrison Dale, former president of the university (Boise, 1944) [see the Appendix], Beacon for Mountain and Plain: Story of the University of Idaho by Rafe Gibbs (Moscow, University of Idaho Press, 1962), This Crested Hill: An Illustrated History of the University of Idaho by Keith C. Peterson (Moscow, University of Idaho Press, 1987). This section was written by the Faculty Secretary’s Office for the 1979 edition of the Handbook and has been updated so as to maintain currency of information from time to time since. Unless otherwise noted, the text is as of July 1996. [ed./rev. 7-98] CONTENTS: A. Origins B. The University Today A. ORIGINS. [See also Appendix I.] Recognizing that education was vital to the development of Idaho, the legislature set as a major objective the establishment of an institution that would offer to all the people of the territory, on equal terms, higher education that would excel not only in the arts, letters, and sciences, but also in the agricultural and mechanic arts. The federal government’s extensive land grants, particularly under the Morrill Act of 1862, provided substantial assistance in this undertaking.

September 25, 2000 Now that the Aztecs are off to an 0-4 start in football many people around town are saying, "See, I told you so - they overscheduled again!" Indeed, my friend and favorite columnist, Nick Canepa, has questioned my sanity publicly about the schedule and my mug has been featured in the "Who's Not (hot)" box in the San Diego Union-Tribune This publicity wouldn't be so bad except that the U-T has never listed as me as "Who's Hot," even though I've been around for almost six years and once appeared on Hacksaw Hamilton's radio show. Of course, I am well aware that the schedule has been tough, but, believe it or not, there is method to our madness. First, I thought we could actually win a couple of those games and, frankly, we should have. Take away the late missed field goal against Arizona State and the blocked punt against Arizona, and we might be 2-2. Despite that possibility, however, some fans believe this kind of schedule leaves us too banged up to effectively compete in our conference. While it is true that we have already suffered five season ending injuries, I would argue that this year is an exception. In fact, we have been playing similar schedules over the last five years (Wisconsin, USC, Washington, Cal, Oklahoma, North Carolina, etc.) and have suffered only four-to-five season ending injuries combined ! And this season one of our serious injuries came before our first game and another when a player fell off his bicycle.
