Traveler Tips Geography The Federal Republic of Germany lies at the very heart of Europe and forms a bridge between maritime Western Europe and Eastern Europe, between the warm south and the cooler north. From the Alps in the south, the country stretches north across wooded low mountain ranges as far as the North Sea and the Baltic. From sandy ocean beaches and rolling pastures to idyllic river valleys and dramatic mountain castles to bustling cities and sophisticated spa resorts - Germany offers great variety in an area the same size as the state of Montana, easily accessible and welcoming all to visit. Climate
Germany has a predominantly temperate climate. Average summer temperatures range from 20 C to 30 C (68 F to 86 F). The average winter temperature is C (32 F). Search Detailed Search Travel Tips Arriving in Germany by Air Customs Entering Germany Money Matters ... What to do

On this map you see the geographical location of Geilenkirchen. The most western village of Germany is located next to GK in the county of Heinsberg. A 10 minute drive (by car) takes you into the Netherlands, to Belgium it takes approximately . 25 minutes.
Geology: During Ice Age the river Maas deposited a lot of sand in this area. So if we dig a hole for whatever reason, we can fill the sand pit / sand box for our children. Due to this you will find a hearth area west of Geilenkirchen. There was more of this type countryside as you might notice by the names of the villages around GK named Niederheid or Hochheid (hearth = Heide).
