Distribution Maps of Plant Diseases Index
Maps are indexed by the title of the latest edition of the map. The map number is followed by the year of the latest edition. Where the name in the title has been superseded, the new name is given in parentheses following = Synonyms, including preferred names, are cross-referenced to the latest map title and number. More synonyms can be found on individual maps. The taxonomy is checked fully when a map is updated. Up until 1997, map dimensions were 272 x 172 mm. From 1997 onwards, new maps and revisions are issued in A4 (210 x 297 mm) format and are indicated by * below. The latest Distribution Maps of Diseases Index has been split into four categories. Click on your chosen category to view the index.

Learn more about how diseases spread and find information on the prevention, symptoms and treatments of common childhood illnesses. How Diseases Spread Infectious diseases are caused by germs, such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Contagious or communicable diseases are those that can be spread from one person to another. Infectious diseases that commonly occur among children are often communicable or contagious and may spread very easily from person to person. Infants and toddlers are highly susceptible to contagious diseases. They have not yet been exposed to many of the most common germs; therefore, they have not yet built up resistance or immunity to them. Also, young children have many habits that promote the spread of germs. For example, they often put their fingers and other objects in their mouths. In this way, germs enter and leave the body and can then infect the child or be passed on to others. In order for germs to be spread from one person to another, three things must happen:
