http://www.crowcanyon.org/Programs/fall_lab_.html
FALL LAB On-Line Reservation Request FOCUS: Advanced pottery analysis and interpretation LOCATION: Campus of Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, Cortez, Colorado SCHOLARS: Crow Canyon research laboratory staff DATE: Each year, at the end of the field season, a group of dedicated alums returns to Crow Canyon to take a first look at the artifacts collected during the summer. Join this select group and make a substantial contribution to laboratory research by participating in the Fall Lab program, which is designed to take full advantage of the special skills of Adult Research Program alumni. Over the years, the Crow Canyon research lab has made several important discoveries about ancestral Puebloan culture. We have found that the famous Mesa Verde pottery style derives from textile patterns, that cooking pots can be used to estimate the population and occupation span of archaeological sites, and that animal bones can be used to infer ritual as well as culinary behavior. Help us answer one of our most important current research questions: whether the Albert Porter Preserve, our current excavation site, was home to the political leadership of its larger community, or was a nonresidential, ceremonial site.
