Weather Forecasts Recent forecasts from the AVN and ETA models. This page contains links to complete forecast images for selected regions worldwide plus simplified forecasts for North American regions. Quick-Looks and Meteograms An abbreviated look at the current weather and forecasts for major metropolitan areas in the United States. This pages contains links to the quick-look weather summaries plus the ETA and MRF meteograms. Short-Term Climate Outlooks This page contains links to the short-term climate outlooks for temperature, precipitation, and soil moisture. Temperature and precipitation outlooks are 0-5 and 6-10 day means plus 10-day anomalies; the soil moisture outlook is the 14-day change. These Tropical Pacific SST Predictions are part of an ongoing research effort at COLA, and do not represent official forecasts. The forecasts should not be used as the basis of any commercial or public policy decisions. They are strictly research tools for advancing the understanding of the ocean-atmosphere system.

  • NVODS (National Virtual Oceanographic Data System) PFEL (Pacific Fisheries Environmental Laboratory) ESSC (Environmental Systems Science Centre)
The Live Access Server (LAS) is a highly configurable Web server designed to provide flexible access to geo-referenced scientific data. It can present distributed data sets as a unified virtual data base through the use of DODS networking . Ferret is the default visualization application used by LAS, though other applications (Matlab, IDL, GrADS, ...) can also be used. LAS enables the Web user to
  • visualize data with on-the-fly graphics
  • request custom subsets of variables in a choice of file formats
  • access background reference material about the data (metadata)
  • compare (difference) variables from distributed locations
LAS enables the data provider to
  • unify access to multiple types of data in a single interface create thematic data servers from distributed data sources offer derived products on the fly remedy metadata inadequacies (poorly self-describing data) offer unique products (e.g. visualization styles specialized for the data)

The IRI/LDEO Climate Data Library contains a wide variety of earth science data, primarily oceanographic and atmospheric datasets. The Introduction to Climate Data picks out a few of the most generally interesting datasets, and the Data Library Overview shows some of the many ways the data can be accessed and manipulated. There are some step-by-step examples , as well as as many answered questions The Library is quite powerful. For example, the Data Viewer will let you explore the dataset of your choice (for a demonstration, look at World Topography or Ocean Climatologies
    Maproom
The maproom is a collection of maps and other figures that monitor climate conditions at present and in the recent past. The maps and figures can be manipulated and are linked to the original data. Even if you are primarily interested in data rather than figures, this is a good place to see which datasets are particularly useful for monitoring current conditions.
