Läs What is the Childrens Library (Barnens bibliotek)? The Children's Library started -96 with a small site with book reviews and some links for children. Target group were then age 6-app 12. I am now working with pages for caretakers and parents and pages for young people. I have about a 1500 visitors a week. Many children's libraries and schools has the site as startingpoint on the computers for the children. This year (2001) I have got money from a Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs that makes it possible for me to work extra with the site. In the work with the site I have invited children to participate. I have a group of children to whom I e-mail regularly. They give me new ideas and criticism of the pages. Most options is about the layout and the book reviews. I also invite myself to library-classes to discuss the content, structure and layout of the Children's Library on the net. Library-classes are groups within the school mostly with children who have chosen library and reading as a subject in school. The classes are led by a librarian.

Fireboat
Written and illustrated by Maira Kalman Putnam, $16.99, ages 6-10 "The Harvey was the fastest and shiniest fireboat in New York City." Beginning in 1931, water from her powerful hoses fought fires at Hudson River piers, including an awful fire on the liner Normandie . But by 1995 she was old and useless, sitting in the water for five years, waiting to be sold for scrap. That is, until a group of friends saved her fixed her up for parties and fun. She could never be used to fight a fire again, they said.

"Of course I re-write! Writing is re-writing!" That’s my response to the question that I am asked most often by teachers and students. What follows here is an example of the kind of evolution/revision that I go through with my books.
So I began. Because the rhythms and constants of Muriel were part of me, I was able to go directly to the typewriter.

The Bookchair is made in Tirumangalam, (which means 'good fortune') in Tamil Nadu district, India. Tirumangalam used to provide most of the roses for the holiest city in southern India, nearby Madurai, which has been a centre for learning and pilgrimage for centuries. The Bookchair is made by the manufacturer called Teddy Exports. Anita Roddick says, "Teddy Exports is one of the community connections I am most proud of in all my years at the Body Shop". Workers at Teddy receive free medical care, subsidized lunch and tea in a new canteen, annual excursions and functions in a safe and pleasant working environment. There is a pension scheme and a system of housing loans. Good wages mean that workers can afford good homes, education for their children and are able to save money for the future. EmporiumUK.com are delighted to be able to offer the Bookchair in three visually appealing colours. We also hope to be able to offer the similar 'Writechair' in the near future.

The Write Sites
Rather than list my entire bookmark file here, I selected those sites that have good connections to information. Once you are there you can jump to more specific sites. I start from a general catalog site, like YAHOO, and explore the branches until I reach a site with a good set of links to one subject. Then I bookmark the link site so I can go back to it quickly. I like the documents available at http://english-www.hss.cmu.edu/18th.html, but unless you like the Eighteenth century, the pointer is useless. Leave your own trail of cyberbreadcrumbs.
Libraries
My advice to writers who ask about where to find information is always: start with your public library. There is a lot of information on the Internet, but not much depth to it yet. It's like those whirlwind tours of Europe, except instead of 7 countries in 7 days you can do 700 sites in an hour or so and still not learn much. You can find out more with a couple of hours research in a library than you can from the same time spent on the Internet. Once you have researched the background and have a basic grasp of the subject, you will be able to handle the disorganized information on the Internet.
