Habitats-Geography GEOGRAPHY Student Atlas of California , 5th Ed. by Rice Oliver A practical resource with more than 50 maps depicting history, exploration, geology, settlement patterns, transportation routes, agriculture, etc. Activities. Grades 4-6.[4.1,4.4] Geography from A to Z, A Picture Glossary by Jack Knowlton This book is exactly what the title says it is. It uses large, simple, colorful illustrations to show examples of geography terms, like promontory, reef, marsh, and island. Two sentences in large type expand on the topic. Very cool! Grades 2-4.[3.1,4.1] California's 58 Counties by Bennett Jacobstein This is a straight reference book with a page for each county listing a bit of its history, land use, population changes over time, racial composition, endangered and threatened species, and weather. Grade 4 up.[4.1, 4.4] Stringbean's Trip to the Shining Sea A joyous, creative book that looks like an album full of postcards sent by Stringbean and his older brother Fred one summer while driving from Kansas to California. Readers enjoy the gift of Stringbean's honest views of the "history places" he is forced to visit as well as his amazement with the change in landscape. A delightfully subtle teacher of geography! Grades 3-5. [3.1, 4.1]
