Welcome to your 'virtual' home. Our goal is to bring you free or low-cost online resources and syndicated content to make your job and your life easier and more organized.
Apparently most of the places that were providing services, particularly for free, are going belly up. I'm back to revising this site and maybe at some point having a purpose for it. For now I just really like the logos I came up with and they look really good on t-shirts (let me know if you want one). I also have actual pencils now with the ixistence.com name on them. At least they have a purpose, they're for writing.

Marketing Analysis
Strategic Planning
The process of planning in general is considered as a road map into the future, determining the route to make. It is also considered the "Management of Change", since it involves a formal and systematic process to provide the direction and control of the company, and thus represents our ability to directly influence our destiny. As a result, planning is not only for the larger companies; it should be performed by all companies regardless of size or scale. Although there are differences in the depth, detail, and techniques required, the process and approach are the same, and its effectiveness, as with marketing and sales, can directly impact company profitability. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower summed it up this way, "The plan is nothing. The planning is everything." It has been my experience that both owners and employees who participate in the process come out stimulated and further committed to the success of the company. Development Services

By Stephen Windhaus For the entrepreneur who is supporting a wife and children, getting health insurance coverage for the family can make earning a living even more difficult. Dear Small Biz Adviser
I am interested in learning where I can obtain information about purchasing health insurance for my family (three members) at group rates. My husband owns a small business, consisting of just himself. How can I find out if it is possible to form a group, in order to purchase more affordable health insurance? Thank you for your anticipated response.
Concerned Dear Concerned:
Being self-employed and a father of two, I empathize with your concerns about protecting your family. Health insurance for small-business owners has been an issue of great concern from many years. In fact, a recent survey put the cost of health care as small-business owners' No. 1 concern the same rank it's held in the survey for the past 14 years.

Printer friendly page Financial planning: Family budget You'll need to add up what the family will require to make it through. You have to examine the saving and spending habits of your family to do this. The best way to understand your family's personal cash flow needs is to create a budget If you already have a budget, look back over the past year's expenses. If you don't have one, try to recreate what the family spent last year, at least in the major categories like loan payments, food, utilities and entertainment. Since many of the expenses are variable, identify which can be cut back, and which can be cut out. Continued below
Remember, too, that at least one partner's income will change, maybe for the worse, for the first few years of business startup and growth, so you will have to write your new budget to reflect the loss of income, or change in income. If the budding entrepreneur is the sole breadwinner, you'll have to plan on a larger loss of income. Put at least one-fourth of the family's annual expenses in a bank account before you open your business. Financial planners always recommend an additional three-month liquid emergency fund, such as a money market account or short-term certificate of deposit. You may want to increase that to six months to cover the family during startup Use these figures to create a one- to three-year family survival plan in case the business does not generate the expected revenues.

We take a break from helping business owners meet the clashing demands of their jobs, marriages, families, and selves. This week, we ask organizational psychologist Stewart Friedman, the director of the Leadership Development Center at Ford Motor Co., what it would it be like if we all got it absolutely right? Friedman, the father of three young children, is currently on leave from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He contends that the bottom line would improve maybe even dramatically. His research appeared most recently in the new book

Small businesses: A big part of our economy
Betty Udesen / The Seattle Times Chris Bihary, co-owner of the small, independent Queen Anne Office Supply, said business has improved in recent years. He attributes that to hard work, customer service, wide selection, competitive prices and community involvement. Small business is one of the most important parts of the economy. The Small Business Administration says about 25.5 million small businesses employ more than half the U.S. work force. Small business has helped create more than 14 million new jobs in the past decade. In addition, there are about 10 million people in the U.S. who are self-employed - small businesses by definition. About 600,000 new businesses are started each year. Washington state is one of the top 10 states for small businesses, with more than 185,000 here. If you are thinking of starting your own small business - or you already have - these pages can help. Stephen H. Dunphy, Seattle Times business columnist

Running a family business has its own unique set of challenges by Tyrone Beason
Seattle Times staff reporter In some ways, Doug Norwood and Brian Boyett lead parallel lives. Both came of age in their families' businesses and eventually took them over. In Norwood's case, the business is a landmark Pioneer Square toy store opened by his father in 1972. Boyett runs the oldest clock- and watch-repair shop in Seattle, Ballard Time Shop, started by his grandfather in 1925. But where Norwood had to learn to love working under his father at Wood Shop Toys, Boyett knew as a teenager that he was bound to follow in his grandfather's footsteps. Like thousands of small-businesses owners, both men have found that running a family business comes with a unique set of challenges. But neither would have had it any other way. Sense of belonging
Two signs hanging near the checkout counter at Wood Shop Toys set a tone for the Norwood family business right away. One says: "Help wanted! Gentle but somewhat nasty ogre to help control permissively reared children."
