Australian Business Ethics Network People make decisions within organisations everyday. For the most part they do so with the interests of the organisation in mind. The personal values of a manager or employee are not usually the underlying aspect of the decision making. The challenge for organisations is to ensure that decisions are not only profitable, but that they are ethical as well.
The Australian Business Ethics Network has been established to to promote ethical pratices in business, advocate the need for ethics as part of business courses and to provide a forum for ethicists to discuss and exchange ideas on teaching, training and consulting in the field of business ethics.
The RMIT University has been a leader in the development of business ethics as a feature of the business curricula in Australia Business ethics can provide
  • a framework for improving decision making within organisations
strategies and techniques to tackle dilemmas transcending individual organisations
a holistic as well as strategic orientation in business planning

(This guide is located at http://www.managementhelp.org/ethics/ethxgde.htm on the Web.) The profession of business ethics has long needed a highly practical resource that is designed particularly for leaders and managers those people charged to ensure ethical practices in their organizations. Unfortunately, far too many resources about business ethics end up being designed primarily for philosophers, academics and social critics. As a result, leaders and managers struggle to really be able to make use of the resources at all. Also, far too many resources about business ethics contain sensationalistic stories about businesses "gone bad" or prolonged preaching to businesses to "do the right thing". These resources often explore simplistic ethical questions, such as "Should Jane steal from the company?" The real world of leaders and managers is often much more complex than that. This guide is a straightforward and highly practical tool designed to help leaders and managers implement comprehensive ethics management systems in their workplaces systems to deal with the complex, ethical issues that can occur in the day-to-day realities of leading and managing an organization.

Jewish Business Ethics: An Introductory Perspective
Rabbi Yitzchok Breitowitz
Jewish Business Ethics: An Introductory Perspective
(Part I)
Rabbi Yitzchok Breitowitz NOTE: Because the talk covered many areas of business ethics, this article will confine itself to introductory perspectives. Specific areas will be covered in future editions. It should also be noted that this article is a transcript of an oral presentation to a diverse audience which accounts for its informal style. Many of us have a mistaken idea of what is within the compass or scope of our religious traditions. People know that lighting Chanukah candles is something you talk about with a rabbi, observance of the Shabbat, the laws of Kashrut, etc., but many people have an attitude that if I don't tell the rabbi how to run his business, the rabbi shouldn't tell me how to run mine. Very often, we live fragmented dichotomized lives where what we do in the office from 9 to 5 (or if you're a workaholic from 8 to 7), is our own private affair and then at home we observe the holidays, or the rituals of Judaism, on the weekends, or three-days-a-year, or whatever. But, what is the concept of serving God with all of your possessions? Certainly, God does not require us to take oaths of poverty. God does not require us to renounce material wealth. So, how does one serve God with all of his possessions?
