" Your College of Education not only critically examined your teacher preparation programs, but used those findings... to improve your product....You and Dean Taylor must be commended for your leadership in this matter. Our K-12 system will excel only when individuals decide to put the needs of our children and families over the needs of their particular bureaucracy..." Gov. Jane Dee Hull in a 1999 letter to President Peter Likins The Professional Preparation Board's (PPB) strategic goals are a product of intense deliberations among more than 40 education professionals and citizens. This group worked together in seven design teams for more than 18 months to create goals and recommendations for the plan, which is geared to transform teacher preparation at the University of Arizona (UA). The design teams are composed of university administrators and professors from six UA colleges, and representatives from nine public school districts, an independent school, a charter school, the State Department of Education and a community college. Design team members' creative tensions established a bond which led to an unprecedented commitment to addressing the enduring problems of the changing face of teacher education in the state of Arizona and nationally.
