VLADIMIR NABOKOV Writer/Lepidopterist Vladimir Nabokov left Russia after the 1917 revolution, then lived in England and Germany before moving to the United States in the 1940s. A poet, translator, novelist and internationally recognized lepidopterist (butterfly expert), Nabokov taught at Cornell University from 1948 until 1959. The financial success of his most famous novel, Lolita , allowed Nabokov to devote his time to writing, and he settled in Switzerland, where he continued to write novels and study butterflies.
Extra credit : Movie versions of Lolita were made in 1962 (with Sue Lyon as Lolita and James Mason as the aging Humbert Humbert) and in 1997 (with Dominique Swain as Lolita and Jeremy Irons as Humbert). Zembla: The Nabokov Butterfly Net

Z by birthday from the calendar Credits and feedback Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977) - pen name Vladimir Serin Russian-born American novelist and critic, who wrote both in Russian and English, and spent most of his life in exile. Nabokov's best-known novel, LOLITA (1955), shocked many people but its humor and literary style were praised by critics. The first version of the story, VOLSHEBNIK (The Enchanter), was written in 1939 in Paris. The Enchanter centered on a middle-aged man, who falls in love with a 12-year-old girl and marries her sick, widowed mother to satisfy his erotic desires. He molests the girl in a Riviera hotel while she's asleep, she wakens and he runs into the traffic and dies. "Between the age limits of nine and fourteen there occur maidens who, to certain bewitched travelers, twice or many times older than they, reveal their nature, which is not human, but nymphic (that is, demoniac); and these chosen creatures I propose designate as "nymphets." (from Lolita Vladimir Nabokov was born in St. Petersburg as the son of Vladimir Dimitrievich Nabokov, a liberal politician, and Elena Ivanovna (Rukavishnikov). His aristocratic family was wealthy and Nabokov was educated by British and French tutors. At 16 Nabokov inherited a large estate from his father's brother, but he did not have much time to enjoy his wealth because of the Russian Revolution. His family emigrated to Berlin and Nabokov entered Trinity College, Cambridge, from where he graduated three years later in 1923. His father was murdered in 1922 by a Russian fascist in Berlin, and the word of God then disappeared from his texts.

Nabokov, Vladimir (1899 - 1977) Russia Writer VD The Russian writer was born in 1899 to a wealthy family from St Petersburg. By the age of seven, he could speak French and English fluently. His happy childhood was shattered by the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, which forced noble families into exile. After traveling through Europe, he left for the United States. He taught at the university level and published his first novels, including the famous Lolita in 1955, which was adapted into a film by Stanley Kubrick in 1962. Nabokov and his wife Vera decided to settle indefinitely in Switzerland and began to search for a permanent residence that would be close enough to Milan, where their son Dimitri sang at the Opera, and not far from Geneva , where they had family. In 1961, they moved to the top floor of the

(première partie, I, incipit)
